Wellbeing & Learning Diversity
As the school holidays approach, here are some activities for your child to engage in at home:
1. Scavenger Hunt Adventures
Organise a scavenger hunt in your house or backyard. Create a list of items for your child to find (like a red toy, a book, or a puzzle piece). For older children, add riddles or clues to make it more challenging.
2. DIY Obstacle Course
Transform your living room or backyard into an obstacle course. Use cushions, chairs, and outdoor toys to create challenges like crawling under tables, jumping over pillows, and balancing on a line of tape. You could time your child as they complete the course.
3. Family Fitness Challenge
Encourage everyone to get moving with a family fitness challenge. Each member can choose a few exercises (like jumping jacks, sit-ups, or dance breaks). Create a routine and do it together.
4. Crafty Creations
Engage your child’s creativity with some DIY crafts. Gather supplies like paper, markers, glue, and recyclable materials to create anything from nature collages to homemade greeting cards. Some examples include; making friendship bracelets, painting rocks, or creating a family scrapbook.
5. Gardening Fun
If you have a garden, involve your child in planting flowers, herbs, or veggies. If not, consider starting a small indoor herb garden using pots.
6. Cooking Adventures
Invite your little chefs into the kitchen. Choose healthy recipes where they can participate in the preparation. Try making homemade pizzas, fruit kebabs, or smoothies.
7. Story Time Theatre
Transform story time into a performance. Choose a favourite book and let your child act it out. They can create simple costumes and props from items around the house.
8. Yoga & Mindfulness
Introduce your child to yoga and mindfulness through online videos or apps. Spend some time doing simple poses together or practicing breathing exercises. Create a calming nook with cushions and soft music for relaxation.
9. Science Experiments
Spark curiosity with simple science experiments that can be done at home. Create volcanoes with baking soda and vinegar or make slime.
Staying active during the school holidays doesn't have to involve elaborate plans or outings. With a little creativity and enthusiasm, you can create memorable experiences at home. We hope these ideas inspire joy, laughter, and active play for your family.
Have a fantastic holiday, and don’t forget to share your adventures with us!
