Year 3/4

Literacy

In Literacy this term, students have been investigating and learning about Narrative Non-Fiction texts and how they can be written in many different ways such as songs, movies and diary entries. We have listened to, and discussed the meaning and history of  'Waltzing Matilda' and 'The Wild Colonial Boy'.   Students have been also researching true stories that have been made into films such as 'Oddball' and 'Dolphin Tale' and have also been reading through diary entries from 'Anne Frank'. We are currently creating our own Narrative Non-Fiction texts.

Students have begun exploring biographies and autobiographies and over the coming weeks, will be writing their own autobiography. 

Maths

In Maths, students have been investigating symmetry in shapes, the environment and themselves. 

They have also been exploring transformation including reflections, rotations and translations and have created some impressive mirror reflections of their names.

Students have also been learning about tessellations, identifying the different types around the school environment and creating their own.

Students have begun our final maths unit on number patterns and algebra. They are looking at finding rule within patterns and creating their own. Our last block of the year will revise number topics such as place value and the four operations.

Remembrance Day

This week we reflected on the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers who fought for our freedom and our country, and as a whole school, we paid our respects to those who served with a minute silence.  Lest we forget.

CFA Incursion

All students at Moriac participated in a safety information session presented by our very own Moddewarre Fire Brigade.  Students learnt all about 'good' and 'bad' fires and fire safety both at home and when camping. They also discussed bushfire and grass fire safety as well as the importance of smoke detectors and having a fire safety plan for home. A few students were lucky enough to have a go at using the fire hose.
