Basketball
Our basketball teams faced challenging matches this past week, with several thrilling games going into overtime on Court 1 at the Christian Brothers Centre (CBC). The intensity was high, and our players displayed remarkable grit and determination.
The 1st V team delivered a strong performance, traveling to St Patrick’s and securing a commanding win against our rivals—a great achievement for SPX Basketball! The 2nd V team also had a standout game, clinching a nail-biting 72-68 victory over St Stanislaus’ College in overtime. The 3rd V team battled hard as well, achieving a 38-27 win against Redlands and showing great composure under pressure.
Among the juniors, the 13Ds team celebrated a win against St Augustine’s College with a score of 31-22, while the 15Es triumphed over St Andrew's Cathedral School, 37-19. The 15Fs team kept fans on the edge of their seats, securing a close 33-30 win against St Gregory's College.
Congratulations to all players for their efforts and teamwork.
Training and Game Attendance
This week, we’ve noticed a drop in attendance at training sessions compared to last week. This decline is impacting our coaches' ability to run full sessions effectively, especially for teams with fewer players attending.
If you are unable to attend a session, please log the absence in advance through Clipboard so that coaches can plan accordingly. Consistent attendance is crucial for both individual development and team progress. Please be aware that places in teams may be reviewed if players continue to miss training regularly without prior notice.
Uniform Expectations
Thank you to the students for their positive response to our uniform expectations. Please remember, all players must wear full SPX-branded attire on game days – this includes SPX basketball shorts and singlet, both during games and when traveling to and from games. No Crocs, white t-shirts, hoodies, or non-uniform track pants. Let’s maintain this standard and represent the College with pride.
13/14 Development Squad Update
Following this weekend's games, we’ll be introducing a reshuffle of the 13s/14s Please note that your son may be placed in a new team for this week's game. This adjustment will be communicated during training tomorrow morning. If your son has been moved, he will need to return and collect a new singlet on Saturday. The updated team list will be visible in Clipboard before the Round 4 games. Thank you for your understanding and support as we work to provide players with varied coaching and team experiences.

1st XI – 10 for 147 (Toby Moran 62, Zac Rapa 20) defeated by St Augustine’s College 4 for 149.
The 1st XI hosted St Augustine’s in Round 4 of the ISA competition. Having been sent in, the St Pius X team lost early wickets to be 4 for 48 before Toby Moran and Zac Rapa put on 44 runs. When Toby was dismissed, he had scored two thirds of the total after he had shown great determination mixed with some splendid drives. Zac showed patience, resilience and some fine back foot shots in his innings. Jared Fernandes and Flynn Mansbridge added valuable runs towards the end of the innings which finished on the last ball of the 50th over. The opposition made a strong start but wickets to spinners Lucas Gleeson and Alex Burke and change bowlers Flynn Mansbridge and Charlie Chippendale made the match interesting until the St Augustine innings steadied. The team will be looking to bounce back at home again next Saturday.
2nd XI – 9 for 185 (Alessio Spillane 62, Kamran Nadeem 49) defeated St Patrick’s College 10 for 137 (Brody Mendel 5 for 18, Miles Moran 3 for 21, Archie Wragge 2 for 18)
ISA Round 4 – Saturday 9 November 2024
1st XI v Scots All Saints College at Oxford Falls #1
2nd XI v Oakhill College at Oakhill College, Castle Hill

Summer Tennis
Another great day of tennis was held at Talus St and lots of great matches were played. Jason Bau and Massimo Musumeci SPX 23 were in excellent form for their singles matches both winning 6-4 and 6-3 respectively. Ethan Heng SPX 19 also played an excellent singles match against Reddam 7 winning 6-3. Micah Chan and Ryan Littler SPX 17 blitzed their match against SPX 18 winning all 3 sets.
There were 6 Pius vs Pius matches this weekend in the 10:00 am timeslot and this is always one of my favourite weekends to watch tennis. The camaraderie on the court is amazing and the banter is always worth eavesdropping in on. Sebastian Dal Molin, Marcus Ulevik and Isaac Cheng SPX 14 played some excellent shots and rallies to win all sets. Nicholas Kwan SPX 7 showed how much his tennis skills have really come along winning his singles 6-0. Justin Lee and Lucas Willems make a great doubles team, this was proven last weekend when they won their doubles, 6-3.
GREEN BALL
After a washout last weekend, these boys were back and ready to play this weekend. Nicholas Keung and Javien Foo displayed their skills winning 18 games to 8. Tom Shoudra and Harry Wortley have also shown that they are a pretty formidable team also winning 18 games to secure a victory for their team. Patrick Buono, Isaac Fernandez and Will Graham were also in fine form winning all 3 sets.
REMINDERS
Finally, a reminder to all players that it is important to make sure that you arrive to start your game at least 15 minutes before the start of play. This is to ensure that you have had a sufficient warm up and that you have a chance to correctly fill out the scoresheet with your first and last names.

Swimming
On Friday night the Senior Swimming Squad competed at the annual St Patrick's Invitational Carnival. We recruited some Junior School students to fill the younger age groups for this carnival. This proved to be a great asset to the senior squad. There were some outstanding results with Ben Crichton of Year 7 breaking the U12 Freestyle record and the junior team taking away the competition and winning a shield. A special mention to Jack Dunk, Ben Crichton, Brandon Abram, Liam Gallery, Dominik Playle, Ethan Leong, Patrick Connell and Kye Ausling who made up the Junior Division and won the Junior Shield.
The squad came 5th overall which was a fantastic effort by all swimmers.
Training continues Tuesday and Thursday for the next two weeks over at Fitness First.
