This week in Writing, we are learning to plan and write about the setting of the story.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Discuss your child’s favourite story book and its settings. What do we know about settings? What are they? What kinds of settings have we read about in books before? 

 

Discuss what the setting is and use some adjectives to  describe it. Encourage your child to  notice and discuss the details included in the text and /or pictures. 

 

What do we know about settings? What are they? What kinds of settings have we read about in books before?

 

After the discussion your child can have a go at writing using any media, paper or technology  about the character. 

 

Eg: 

The Three Little Monkeys

Three monkey treehouses.

One short, wide yellow treehouse. 

One tall, skinny brown  treehouse.

One green treehouse with large, green leaves and curly brown vines with only three leaves around it.
