Visual Arts News

Mrs Armstrong

Dear Parents,

Our students have made some wonderful artworks over Term 2. Their works will be on display in the Main playground throughout next term.

Visual Arts at SFX is about students developing their creative, conceptual and technical skills. They learn new techniques and processes that help them express their ideas and feelings.

Currently, Year 4 Art students are working on their Wild at Art works. They are researching koalas, learning about why these marsupials are endangered and how we can help save them. Students practiced drawing koalas and were encouraged to persevere to improve their skills.

Children aged 5 - 12 years are able to get involved in the Wild At Art exhibition, Australia's biggest wildlife art competition for kids. It's an opportunity for children to unleash their artistic creativity while learning about Australia's threatened animals and plants – and the threats facing them.

It's wonderful to experience artworks in real life and there are some great exhibitions in Sydney over the holidays. Check out The Archibald Prize, the Young ArchiesYolnu Power: The Art of Yirrkala  and Yayoi Kusama's Flowers That Bloom in the Cosmos at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and The Intelligence of Painting at the Museum of Contemporary Art.

Have a wonderful holiday and make art!
