SCOE excursion Year 8

Ms Eloise O'Brien and Mr Dean Moss

Recently, our Year 8 students had an exciting opportunity to visit the STEM Centre of Excellence (SCOE) at Science Gallery Melbourne. SCOE explores the fascinating intersection of art and science, encouraging students to engage with scientific and artistic inquiry through innovative programs designed specifically for young people.

During their visit, Year 8 students took part in a workshop where they applied principles of aerodynamics to design and build their own motorised cars. After constructing their motors and carefully crafting their vehicle designs, the students put their creations to the test in a race, showcasing their understanding of science and creativity in action.

This immersive experience not only deepened students’ knowledge of STEM concepts but also fostered valuable skills such as design thinking, problem-solving, and collaboration. Photos below demonstrate the skills the students gained on the day.
