The importance of regular school attendance.

At Mount Beauty Secondary College, we prioritise regular school attendance. We will work with families to ensure students are in class with their peers and teachers to enjoy the benefit that this brings.

Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.

We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school. To ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time. If your child is well enough to attend but is worried about friendships, schoolwork or exams, please encourage them to come to school. Avoiding school can make these feelings worse and can create a negative pattern of behaviour.

If your child is having difficulty attending school, talk to their teacher or a Student Engagement Leader about getting support.

We know that parents and carers can be juggling challenges daily to get your children to school. If your child must miss school, notify us as soon as possible via Compass and email so we can work together to support them.

Arriving on Time

Arriving at school on time is critical to a student’s academic success and overall wellbeing. Arriving on time ensures that students start their day with their peers, receiving all the necessary information and instructions from the beginning. It also helps in:

Building Routine: Consistent attendance helps students develop a structured routine.
Maximising Learning Opportunities: Every lesson counts. Missing classes can lead to gaps in knowledge and understanding, making it harder for students to keep up with their peers.
Fostering Responsibility: Being on time teaches students the importance of responsibility and time management, skills that are essential in all areas of life.

We ask for your support in ensuring that your child arrives at school on time each day and maintains regular attendance. Together, we can create a positive and productive learning environment for all our students. If attendance has been flagged as an area for concern please maintain regular contact with the school to aim for improvement.
