NAPLAN 2025

NAPLAN testing for students in Years 7 and 9 was conducted in March and the Department has made the effort to get results back to families and schools faster this year. While this is one test on one day, the results do provide another piece of data to fit into the puzzle of student learning and can help us to support our students better.

Student results were sent home to families at the end of last week and our staff will be using these results to assist with planning.

In a quick summary, we need to congratulate the Primary Schools that our Year 7 students have come from. The majority of these students were rated as working at the Strong level for reading, writing, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and numeracy.

Our Year 9 students had the majority placed at Strong for reading, spelling and numeracy. Roughly equal numbers of students were working in the Strong and Exceeding level for writing and the majority of Year 9s were rated as Developing for grammar and punctuation.

ASSSTC

The Australian Secondary Schools Ski Team Championship (ASSSTC) was held this week at Falls Creek, as part of the Falls Creek Schools Carnival. Mount Beauty Secondary College was one of the original teams that attended this competition. It is fantastic that our school is still competing in this event.

A big thanks to Lenny Comerford for all his organisation and passion which ensured the continuation of our school’s participation in this event and to Shantelle Stimson and Jenny Farrington for attending the excursion.

Following Your Dreams

Laura Roso was a student at Mount Beauty Secondary College between 1987 and 1992. She recently got in touch with me to share that her belief in chasing dreams finally came true, as she is now a published author. She's also a teacher who manages productions at a school in Melbourne, Laura donated a signed copy of her first book; a children’s fiction story, Race Against Ace; Laura’s letter shared that her time at Mount Beauty Secondary College helped to shape her into who she is today. For every staff member in a school, this is the kind of praise that really confirms the reason we are all here. “They inspired me to be my best, praised me when I worked hard, challenged me when I doubted myself, and gave me the courage and confidence to keep going, even when something felt impossible.” Laura mentioned that she fondly remembers many of her teachers, but in particular her English teachers, being Cathy Gunn, Liz Smith, Helen Marshall, Jan Ramage and Marg Jowitt.
