From Tuesday 5th to Friday 8th August, 23 Year 10 Western Heights College students proudly represented the school on a snow trip to Victoria’s alpine region (Mt Buller), where they took part in downhill skiing and snowboarding. For many, it was their first time on the snow, and they showed outstanding determination and positivity as they tackled new skills and unfamiliar terrain.
Student buy-in was exceptional from the outset. Whether learning to link turns on a snowboard or building confidence on skis, every participant gave their best effort and embraced the opportunity to step outside their comfort zone. The progress made over just a few days was impressive, and students consistently supported one another on the slopes and off, fostering a strong team spirit.
Staff were especially proud of the students' behaviour, resilience (especially after a wet day on the Wednesday), and representation of Western Heights College. They demonstrated respect, inclusiveness, and a genuine willingness to learn - qualities that enhanced the experience for everyone involved.
The trip not only provided valuable physical challenges but also built independence, confidence, and a sense of achievement. Congratulations to all who took part for making the most of this unique opportunity and proudly representing the college in such a positive way. Thanks to Mr Davis, as well as Ellie Flanagan, for coming along, both provided support and guidance that enhanced student experiences.
We already can’t wait for the trip in 2026!
Thanks,
Mr Parker
At Western Heights College, we prioritise regular school attendance. Attending school every day means experiencing what counts – the learning, friendship, fun and opportunities that can shape your child’s future.
We understand that there are times when your child will need to miss school but to ensure minimal disruption to their education, please consider scheduling family holidays or medical/dental appointments outside of school time.
If your child is having difficulty attending school, please reach out to their relevant LCL through Compass about getting support.
For more information about the importance of everyday attendance, see the
Attendance and Missing School link.
Remember, Every Day Counts.
We are proud to recognize and celebrate the outstanding achievements of our students who have been awarded the Academic Excellence Award this year.
This prestigious honour is a testament to your exceptional dedication, consistent effort, and commitment to excellence in all areas of study. Your hard work and perseverance have not only earned you this recognition but have also set an example for your peers.
On behalf of the entire school community, we extend our warmest congratulations. May you continue to pursue knowledge with passion and strive for excellence in all that you do

In week 5 we will be celebrating Book Week 2025 in the library. The theme for this year’s book week set by the Children’s Book Council of Australia is Book an Adventure. We invite our students to embark on fantastical journeys and activities, inspiring them to travel through the worlds that books open up.
In the library from the 18th - 22nd of August we will be running activities every day at lunch time to celebrate book week!
Mon 18/8: Book Tasting activity. This activity intended to expose students to books, genres and authors that they might not otherwise explore themselves. Students can read a sample, record key details, then choose a title to read in full.
&
Music in the courtyard outside the library
Tues 19/8: The Book DJ in the library
Wed 20/8: Student Free Day
Thurs 21/8: Design your own journal activity with Geelong Regional Libraries. This activity is for students to come in and design/make your own book journal. Only 5 spots left for students who would like to join. (Library will be closed at lunch time on this date due to activity)
Mad Hatter’s Tea Party for Library Monitors Group only at lunch time.
Fri 22/8: Book Character Parade. (Only year 7 are permitted to dress up as a book character on Friday). Parade taking place in the library at lunchtime. Prizes to be won!
This year to coincide with our adventure themed book week we have introduced a Book Passport. This passport is a fun activity for students to complete over the term and earn stamps for the books they’ve read and the activities they complete in their passport. Students can grab their book passport from the library.
Library Opening Hours: Our library is open to students from 4-7pm on Wednesdays for our Geelong Regional Library hours. This is the perfect opportunity for students wanting to use the library as a quiet space to do school catch-up, studying and exam prep after school!
Students at WHC are encouraged to ‘Call Out’ poor behaviours they may be exposed to, witness, or hear of in our community.
If you hear something that is not right, or feel uncomfortable in our community, we want to hear from you!
Students are encouraged to email their Year Level address, where concerns will be resolved.
