Sausage Sizzle for a Cause
Friday 8 August - Lunch Time
As part of National Homelessness Week 2025, the Friends' Middle Campus Service and Wellbeing Committees are holding a sausage sizzle at lunchtime on Friday 8 August to support the Hobart Women’s Shelter Buy a Brick campaign. This initiative aims to build 25 new long-term homes for women and children in need of safe and affordable housing. 2 homes have been built so far.
Between 1 July 2020 and 30 June 2024, more than 4,500 women and children sought emergency support from the shelter. Sadly, eight out of ten were turned away due to limited capacity.
Sausages will be $3 each or two for $5, with a range of options available to suit different dietary needs. Cash and card payments available (cash payments preferred).
Hobart City Mission Excursion
As part of National Homelessness Week, Hobart City Mission has offered to take our Student Voice Council on a tour of their Safe Sleep Space shelter in Davey Street on Friday 8 August, from 12pm - 1pm.
This opportunity is designed so our students can learn about the causes and effects of homelessness in our community, and how we can work together to overcome the crisis. Note: Night Safe Space is not used during the day by clients.
Inspired by our Quaker values, students will collaborate on ideas for initiatives in the Middle School, including raising awareness and funds for Hobart City Mission at the Middle Campus. It is recommended that students pack their own lunch, in case of any delays that might impact the use of the canteen.
We ask that parents of students in the Student Voice Council please accept the Operoo permissions asap.
Please contact Essie Hoggart if you have any questions.
Road Safety Around School
The Road Safety Advisory Council have created a short reel as a reminder to drive safely around school zones. We ask you to spend less than a minute watching this important video here:

Uniform Reminder
As we are having a renewed focus on our uniform guidelines, we would like to ask students and parents for assistance. The full guidelines can be accessed here, but we would like to particularly remind families of the following:
- Only official uniform items bearing The Friends’ School logo should be worn once students enter school grounds, apart from free dress days. This includes non-uniform hoodies, tights (including Lululemon), caps and jumpers
- Students may wear small jewellery items and blemish-control makeup (colourful nail polish, lipstick or mascara are not permitted)
- Students may wear their P.E. uniform if they: Have a scheduled P.E., Drama, Dance or Connections class, an excursion or co-curricular sports. Otherwise, they should wear their Formal Uniform.
Thank you for supporting us in ensuring that our students represent our school community in a positive way.
