Japanese Cultural Day

Families are invited to join us in The Farrall Centre for a brief assembly commencing at 9.10am before students divide into groups for the morning's activities.

Road Safety Around School

The Road Safety Advisory Council have created a short reel as a reminder to drive safely around school zones. We ask you to spend less than a minute watching this important video here:

Year 5 Excursion - The Hobart Convict Penitentiary

Tuesday 5 August

On Tuesday 5 August Year 5 will go on an excursion to The Hobart Convict Penitentiary. This excursion is part of our ‘Where we are in place and time’ inquiry and aims to provide students with a valuable experience of learning about perspective, bias, empathy, and the importance of understanding our history. We will be leaving school at 9.15am and walking to the Hobart Convict Penitentiary on the corner of Campbell and Brisbane Streets. Students will participate in a guided tour including the site of the Penitentiary as it was in 1821, the Solitary Confinement cells under the pews in the Chapel, the Penitentiary Chapel construction commenced in 1831, the underground tunnels convict-built in 1860, the clock tower entrance including the Church bell and the 1860 conversion to the Supreme Criminal Court. We will not be viewing the 23 minute film Pandemonium as this is recommended for secondary classes only.

At 12.00pm we will walk to Soundy Park for break time before we walk back to school, returning by 1.30pm. Please ensure your child arrives at school on time so that we can depart promptly by 9.15am. Students require a packed lunch, drink bottle and snacks and should wear their sports uniform and comfortable walking shoes. Additionally, please pack a waterproof jacket in case of rain. The Hobart Convict Penitentiary is a safe and welcoming environment for our students to engage in valuable learning experiences. We would also welcome two parent volunteers to join us for the day. If you are interested please let your child’s teacher know.

Prep Excursion - Linear Park, Lenah Valley

Wednesday 6 August

On Wednesday 6 August, Prep classes will visit the Labyrinth at Linear Park for a transdisciplinary learning experience, centred around Earthcare and Mathematics. We will be looking for provocations in the environment and engaging in open-ended mathematical activities - ‘Muddy Maths’! We will leave school by bus at 11.50am and return to school by 2.00pm. Children will be required to wear appropriate and sturdy shoes/gumboots. Due to the nature of the activities we would suggest children wear warm layers under their uniforms. They will need to bring a change of clothes, as well as a warm coat/rain jacket. We will be eating afternoon tea at the site, so no second break lunch orders on this day please, as we will be unable to collect them before we go.  Please ensure that students have ample water to drink too. Note that we do not require parent help for this excursion.

Year 5 Excursion - Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG)

On Thursday 7 August, Year 5 will be walking to the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) to explore how artefacts tell stories and to participate in the ‘Introduction to ningina tunapri Workshop’ guided by TMAG’s First Peoples Learning Facilitators. We will also visit the ‘Our Land: parrawa! parrawa! Go Away’ in the Bond Store galleries, examining the conflict between the Tasmanian First Peoples and European invaders from multiple perspectives as well as some of the other museum galleries.

We will depart the Primary School at 9.30am and return via Soundy Park by 2.45pm. Full sports uniform is to be worn for comfort. All students will need to bring their own backpack, containing a raincoat and their morning tea, lunch and water bottle (no lunch orders). We will require at least 2 parents from each class to join us for the day. If you are interested please let your child’s teacher know.

Year 2 Outdoor Education Excursion - Waterworks Reserve

We will be departing at 9.15am returning back to school by 3.00pm. Students should wear sports uniforms on this day, but will need to bring a warm jumper or coat/jacket, beanie, gloves and a waterproof raincoat as it could be very cold. As we will be away from school for most of the day, students will need to bring a large packed lunch (no lunch orders), snacks and a drink from home.  Please update student Operoo profiles before the excursion.

Here is an overview, and requests for help!

  • Book Week Assembly and vertical group activities for all students - Monday 18 August, 2.10pm – 3.10pm, The Farrall Centre: Families welcome to attend!
  • Book Fair and Community get-together (more details to come) - Tuesday 19 August after school, The Farrall Centre

  • “Book an Adventure” sessions - Tuesday to Friday 11.00am - 11.30am, Primary Library
    • Each day, our students will be offered a different themed adventure. We are looking for people who are willing to share a story and answer questions about their field of work, special interest or life experience. We will arrange a related activity and have books on the subject available for our students to explore. Please contact your child’s teacher or library staff if you would like to be involved.
  • Staff reading across the school: Tuesday to Friday 8.50am – 9.00am. Staff will read stories to classes that are not their own. Families are welcome to stay for these stories.
  • Stories in the library: Tuesday to Friday 1.50pm – 2.10pm.
    • We are looking for people to host read-alouds in the afternoon break time. Please contact your child’s teacher or library staff if you would like to be involved.

    • Challenge 1: Create an item inspired by this year's theme, "Book an Adventure" or a book you have enjoyed. It could be a diorama, show-bag, poster, sculpture, model, artwork, hat, jewellery or a technology product! It could also be a performance - a song, dance or play that you film. It's up to you - so get creative!!
    • Challenge 2: Create a story based on the theme “Book an adventure"!
    • Challenge 3: Create a response of your choice to celebrate the adventures to be experienced through books!
