Shadow a Sister Day - A Glimpse into Life in Year 7

As part of our ongoing transition to Senior School Program, our Year 6 students will take part in Shadow a Sister Day in the coming weeks — a special opportunity to experience a day in the life of a Kambala Year 7 student.

Dates and Classes Involved:

  • Monday 25 August 2025 – 6U
  • Tuesday 26 August 2025 – 6S
  • Thursday 28 August  2025 – 6N

Each Year 6 student has been paired with a Year 7 ‘Sister’ from the Sisterhood Circles group, who they will accompany throughout the day. This meaningful connection allows our students to explore the routines, subjects and social spaces of Year 7 in a safe, supportive environment.

What to Bring:

  • Excursion bag
  • Recess, lunch and water bottle
  • Small pencil case
  • Fully charged laptop
  • Please note: phones are not required on this day.

Program Highlights:

  • Mentor Period: All students will gather in the Hall to begin their day.
  • Classroom Experience: Students will attend Year 7 lessons during periods 1-4, giving them firsthand insight into the academic expectations of Senior School.
  • Recess & Lunch: Shared with their Sister, allowing for informal conversation and connection in communal spaces.
  • Q&A Session: Students will sit in circles with peers and older students, exploring common questions about the transition to Senior School.
  • House Connections: Students will meet House Patrons and House Prefects, and hear from Senior School teachers about subjects on offer in Year 7 and beyond.
  • Self Skills Workshop: An introduction to important concepts such as self-awareness, self-authorship, and self-reflection – key elements in building confident and capable learners.
  • Reflective Practice: Students will consider their strengths and challenges, writing a letter to their future Year 7 self, which they will revisit during the first week of Year 7 in Pastoral sessions.

Throughout the day, students will explore themes such as:

  • “Who am I now, and who am I becoming?”
  • “What values will support me as a learner in Year 7?”
  • “I used to think… Now I think…” – a chance to reflect on shifting perceptions of Senior School.

We are excited to offer this rich and supportive experience, designed to help our Year 6 students feel more confident and prepared for the journey ahead. This initiative complements beautifully the House Morning Teas with the Principal and the language taster sessions that students participated in this week, as well as the Year 7 2026 Test and Quest Day taking place on Friday 31 October 2025.
