Principals Report

Welcome back to Term 3 at Glen Innes High School. We hope all our students, staff, and families had a restorative holiday break and took the time to rest, recharge, and do the things that help fill their cup. As we begin this term, we look forward to the many opportunities ahead for learning, growth, and connection across our school community.

In Week 3, we are excited to be celebrating both Public Education Week and NAIDOC Week. These two important events allow us to reflect on the strength of our school community and celebrate the stories, talents, and potential of our young people. This year’s Education Week theme, "Ignite Your Potential," encourages every student to embrace their unique abilities and strive for success — a message that resonates strongly at Glen Innes High School, where we aim to support and challenge every learner to achieve their best.

The theme is brought to life through the success of students like Kayden Elliot, who recently won gold in the 18’s Boys All Schools 8km Cross Country event at the Sydney Equestrian Centre. Kayden’s outstanding achievement is a powerful example of what can be accomplished when potential is combined with perseverance, focus, and hard work. His result is not only a personal triumph but also an inspiration to others across our school community. Well done, Kayden!

Alongside Education Week, we are proud to recognise NAIDOC Week, with this year’s theme, "The Next Generation: Strength, Vision & Legacy," inviting us to reflect on the role young people play in carrying forward culture, knowledge, and leadership. It is a time to celebrate the richness of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander heritage and the strength of community. Throughout the week, students will take part in a wide range of activities that honour culture, celebrate achievement, and strengthen identity.

Our NAIDOC Week program includes a whole school NAIDOC Ceremony, a morning tea with Elders, and our much-anticipated Deadly Awards, recognising the achievements and contributions of Aboriginal students across a range of areas. These events are an opportunity to reflect on legacy and leadership, while celebrating the next generation stepping forward with pride and strength.

We’re also welcoming students from our local partner primary schools to join us throughout the week for a series of engaging and inclusive activities. These include a Stage 3 STEM Challenge, agriculture-based competitions, and shared learning experiences designed to foster connection and confidence as they look ahead to high school.

To showcase the creative and practical talents of our students, we’ll be hosting a TAS and CAPA Showcase, as well as running a chess competition, community sporting tournaments, and other lunchtime events that build school spirit and celebrate student engagement across all areas of learning.

Week 3 promises to be a vibrant and inspiring celebration of who we are as a public school community — a place where culture is honoured, potential is ignited, and every student is supported to grow, belong, and succeed.

We can’t wait to share this special week with our students, families, staff, and community partners.
