44 students travelled to Armidale on Monday 28th July to play in the Secondary School Rugby 7s tournament.

It was a cold, wet and very muddy day!

All players can be commended on their efforts. A high level of skill and real improvement was shown throughout the day.

The most notable achievements of the day were the U14s girls coming away as champions, while the under 14 boys secured second place after going down to a very strong Holy Trinity side in the grand final.

Well done everyone!

On Tuesday GIHS took on the might of Callaghan College including the campus sites of Wallsend, Jesmond and Waratah in the final 20 of the state knockout Open Boys Touch.

The game opened with Callaghan playing engaging touch in the midfield which  led to their first try. Glen responded playing an up tempo game which saw several tries scored and Glen leading much of the half. The first stanza concluded in a 4-all deadlock, setting the stage for a nail-biting finish. Both coaches anticipated the game could be decided by a ‘drop-off’ given the even contest.

The second half proved to be an even more tense and tightly fought battle. Both teams displayed determination, with desperate dives, near misses, and mounting fatigue defining the period. With the score at 7–6 to Callaghan, Emory Levy Blair intercepted a crucial pass and dived over the line, only for the effort to be ruled no try in an extremely tight decision.

Callaghan went on to take the honours and win 7-6.They now are in the final 10 of the state. Congratulations.

For Glen the wingers played the whole 40 minutes and fulfilled their roles well. Each of the 3 pods all had their moments of excellence in both attack and defence.

With many stars for Glen all players contributed very well. Glen’s best in both attack and defence were Carter Ferris, Brendan Landsborough and Howie Eastwood who offered great skill, game sense and leadership throughout the game.

Once again the event was a fine example of the excellence that is found in public education. GIHS appreciates the efforts council go to in field preparation to allow the event to take place. Also a special thank you to all match officials that gave up time away from work to support the event.
