5/6 News

We hope you all managed some time to recharge and recoup after a busy Term 2, however you will need to put your seatbelts on and strap in for another action packed term in Term 3!! Be sure to check out the key dates below and fill these into your calendars as it is another busy term.

Our students really are privileged with all things TPS have on offer - this term is no exception with opportunities with our first group of students to heading off to Boys to the Bush, Girls Empowered beginning in Week 5, and we have two groups heading to Senior Citizens to serve morning tea, our Hands on Learning continues with two new groups helping Josh and Brett and many more sporting opportunities. Please keep an eye on Compass for any permission forms and have these up to date to prevent your child from missing out on any events.

Grade 6 parents - by now your child should have given you a form for their choice of Graduation Bear, please ensure these are returned to school by August 15th.

3 Strike Policy

At TPS, we believe that staff and students have the right to feel safe and respected.

Already in Week 1, some students have needed reminders about the importance of making respectful and responsible choices during class time and in the playground. Unfortunately, when poor choices are repeated, some students may miss out on special activities or privileges such as Hands on Learning,  Boys to the Bush, Girls Empowered and any sporting events offered. We will always communicate with you if your child has received a strike, they have been given a strike so they understand the impact of their behaviour and encourage them to reflect and improve.

We provide guidance, second chances, and opportunities for students to take responsibility and make better choices; we kindly ask families to continue these conversations around respect, responsibility and resilience and rules at home.

Girls Empowerment and Boys to the Bush

This term sees both of these wonderful programs starting for our students. These programs are made up with a mixture of Grade 5 and 6 students and will run for 5 weeks each. Boys to the Bush has already kicked off this week and will continue for another four weeks. Girls Empowered Group will start in week 5 and finish in week 9. Our second groups will begin their sessions in Term 4. Read below about the first Boys to the Bush session.

Boys to the Bush was amazing and so much fun. First we got on the road and went to the Boys to the Bush shed and it had a boat, basketball ring and even a pool table! Then we got in the Boys to the Bush mini bus and headed out to a sheep shed just out of Mathoura. The sheep shed was an amazing experience. It was crazy with so many sheep. There were over 20,000 sheep on one farm! After that we got into the mini bus again and headed to the Moama Bowling Club for lunch. We all had the kids meals. We chose either a parmy or cheese burger and soft drink each. Then after our amazing lunch we went to the sheep wool shed where we learnt about all different types of wool. It was so much fun learning all about how they bale the fur and sell it, then we got back in the mini bus and headed to Hungry Jacks to get slushies and, ‘’OMG, so yummy!" After that we headed back to Tongala Primary School. A big thanks Boys to the Bush and Bendigo Bank for this amazing experience.

Seesaw

We're excited to share that our classrooms are actively trialling Seesaw, a dynamic digital platform designed to enhance student learning and foster stronger connections between school and home. By now you should have received communication to login and access your childs Seesaw account. If your child has access to an iPad we are encouraging them to bring them to school to use, we are finding our school computers are a bit clunky to use when uploading photos, it is not necessary but will make the process of uploading a whole lot easier if they bring their own iPads.

Through Seesaw, students can upload photos, videos, drawings, voice recordings, and written work. This allows them to document their learning journey and take pride in their accomplishments. You’ll receive real-time updates and can view your child’s work as it happens in the classroom, bringing you closer to their learning experience.

Why Seesaw is Beneficial:

  • Student Voice: Students can explain their thinking and show understanding in creative ways.
  • Family Involvement: You can like and comment on your child’s work, offering encouragement and support.
  • Teacher Communication: Teachers can share announcements, important reminders, and classroom updates directly with you.
  • Inclusive and Accessible: Seesaw supports different learning styles and helps students express themselves confidently.

We encourage you to check Seesaw regularly to stay involved in your child’s education. If you haven’t already connected, please contact your child’s teacher for access instructions.

Hands On Learning

Lucas, Billy, Ezekiel and I, have just started the wonderful Hands On Learning program with Brett. He started the day by saying all of the rules with Josh's group who are with us but doing different things. We got straight into wheel burrowing and we all learnt how to use the fun mower. Then we moved a lot of mulch into the combat course area. Lucas and Aiden cooked us hotdogs for lunch before we did more work. Thanks Brett for a great day.

On Thursday, at Hands On Learning, Aiden, Ollie and I continued to make vintage pedal cars with Josh. We had to take the stickers off and that was a nightmare because the advertising stickers were so hard to get off but in the end we managed it. For lunch Lucas and Aiden made us the best hotdogs ever! They had bacon and cheese and they were so awesome.

State Cross Country

Congratulations to Ella and Tippi who ran at State Cross Country at the Yarra Valley Race Course on Thursday. According to the girls they had ideal racing conditions with no wind and pure sunshine, they were first to touch the course and the conditions of the track were perfect for pace and balanced racing. The girls took on 91 other competitive work horses from around Victoria and finished 76th and 79th respectively.
