HASS / Inquiry
Year 3/4
This term our 3-4 students will move into the topic of Civics and Citizenship. Our focus will be that we all belong to different communities, everyone can make a difference in their community and this can contribute to our identity. Our unit will culminate in our ERP investigation on how students can ‘pay it forward’.
Our Year 5 and 6 students will explore the long awaited Business & Economics unit, which will culminate in the much anticipated ‘Market Day.’ Stay tuned for dates at each campus as families will be welcome to attend.
What you can to do support at home:
English
Students in Years 3–6 will be exploring a range of texts this term. During English lessons, they will examine the structure of various text types and the language devices used to persuade, inform, or engage an audience. Students will have the opportunity to create their own engaging texts in writing, demonstrating what they have learnt. They will also participate in class discussions and collaborative tasks that build their confidence in discussing and interpreting texts.
What you can do at home to support:
Mathematics
In Maths the 3/4 students will build their understanding of place value and use it to solve problems involving mass, capacity, temperature & angles. We will explore how to read and measure using grams, kilograms, millilitres and litres. We will also use addition and subtraction strategies when working with money and solving real-life problems involving length. Throughout the term, we will apply our skills to hands-on activities and investigations to help make learning fun and meaningful.
In Maths this term, 5/6 students will be exploring decimals and learning how to add, subtract, multiply and divide them in real-world situations. We will investigate capacity by measuring liquids and linking our understanding of decimals to units like millilitres and litres. In fractions, we will compare, order and use them to describe data in everyday contexts and link this to statistics where we will collect, represent and interpret data, using graphs and fractions to make sense of the results.
