Science

Next week is International Science Week and to celebrate I will be making special chemistry creations with students from every year level. Students can join me in the ART room during the last recess on their specialist day. Grades 3/4 and 5/6 will be creating bath bombs and the Prep, Grade 1 and Grade 2 students will be making playdough. Students will be making these with their own hands (and some support of course!) and will be able to take these creations home with them on the day.

Garden Club

We topped up the dirt in our potato boxes this week and also checked on the cabbage plants which are growing well.

In the science room

Last week, a new creature was spotted in our fish tank. It was too small to discern what type of creature it was, however it seemed to have 6 legs and lives primarily under the water. As we learned in biology - 6 legs means it must be a type of insect! This was very curious as I did not add any new creatures myself! This week, the insect had grown big enough to photograph and according to the World Wide Web it is a Dragonfly Lava. This means a poor Dragonfly must have become lost in the Boorai and our science room tank became a safe place for her to lay some eggs. According to our research, when the Lava is ready, it will perform a final larval moult out of water before leaving. I am hoping to see when this occurs, so that I can safely remove the new dragonfly from the Boorai and place it back into the natural world.

Until next time, remember to act like a proton and stay positive!
