Visual Arts and Photography

We have had some excitement this year as we have moved back into our newly refurbished art studios which are a fantastic learning space for all to enjoy. While we have a few minor finishes to complete the spaces are in full operation, and this includes our wonderful STEAM classes using our creative space.

Year 7

Students have been learning about and applying their knowledge of the elements of art and principles of design. Students have not only developed a series of compositions which help to illustrate their understanding, but they are also learning to write about art and use their developing language to discuss and describe artmaking techniques.

Year 8

Students have also revised the elements of art and principles of design and encompassed their knowledge of each into artworks which explore the landscape and the imagination. They have developed their own unique compositions, developed artmaking techniques, all while also learning about other artists and their artworks.

Year 9

Year 9 Visual Arts students have explored kinetic sculpture during the term. Students have worked through the creative process documenting the development of their conceptual and material practice. Every student has designed and created their own refined kinetic sculpture.

Year 10

Students have been examining the idea of portraits in a contemporary context. Students have been developing their own unique, yet personalised representations, exploring and experimenting with a range of material techniques. They have also worked through concepts along their journey, it will be fabulous to see the finished products. To complement their artmaking experiences, students have also explored a range of artists and continue to build on their vocabulary.

Year 11

Year 11 students have examined the concept of “Experiences”, this has allowed students to explore real or imagined experiences and develop a Body of Work which articulates their own personal journey. Students have also engaged in learning about artists whose practices demonstrate their narrative. The material and techniques selected by the students are wide and varied, and their experimental exploration has helped in the resolution of their final concept.

Year 12

Year 12 Visual Arts students are well on the way to resolving and developing their Body of Work that will be submitted in Term 3 of this year. Students have evolved their ideas and are engaging in a range of techniques and materials along their artmaking journey. They have also explored a range of artists in class, and personal influences and through Case Studies and have used the information they have sought to help in developing deeper knowledge in which to help their writing and responses required for this course. Year 12 are also working towards exhibiting their work for their works in progress exhibition later in Term 2.
