Learning is Alive at Little Pioneers

Kindy 3

This term we welcomed so many new Kindy 3 friends, with more friends to join us next term. We have been working hard on forming relationships with our peers, educators, families, and our community.

Social and emotional learning has been an important learning focus for our Kindy 3’s, learning skills such as self-regulation and turn-taking. Miss Bec has been guiding us with emotional learning and friendship-building experiences.

Our favourite Animal Fun movements this term was “Meerkat and Dog Walking.” Colours, shapes, size, counting, positional language, and patterning concepts were skills we covered in numeracy. Our literacy experiences have been focused on learning nursery rhymes with actions such as Little Miss Muffet, speaking in sentences, and developing phonemic awareness.

We have enjoyed many community and school events such as Friendship Week where we spent time with our friends from the Emu and Numbat classes. Harmony Day, Love Your Pet Day, we wrote to our pen pals at MLC ELC and took part in the Easter Hat Parade and Grandparents Morning tea.

Kindy 4

“Time flies when you’re having fun!” And what fun we have had in Kindy 4 this term!

Term 1 of Kindy 4 has been about getting to know each other, becoming familiar with our routines and new environment, learning about how to be ‘good friend’, exploring our emotions and ways to regulate our emotions, establishing classroom promises, developing our fine motor skills, participating in hands-on Literacy and Numeracy tasks, while engaging in the many adventures that have emerged through exploring our interests.

Our amazing adventures include treasure map making and treasure hunts, building a pet hotel, Vet role play and pet care, opening a Flower Shop, building volcanoes using various materials, engineering and construction using loose parts and manipulatives, opening a car/bike wash, ‘Going to the movies’ role play, Hairdressing and Make-up Salon role play, monster truck ramp building and constructing building for Superhero and Transformer figurines and much, much more. Amid all of this, there have also been many creative art projects, learn-to-draw invitations, and sensory play opportunities.

We cannot wait to see what adventures Term 2 will bring!
