Junior Primary Cross Country

We were spoilt by the wonderful weather, and conditions, for the 2024 Junior House Cross Country event held on Monday 25th of March.

With all Year 3-6 students gathered on the oval, and sitting proudly in their house groups, the magnificent backdrop of the rolling hills, and clear blue skies, set the scene for a wonderful community occasion.

Middle distance running can be quite intimidating to some students (and adults as well!) however, all students were urged to participate, even if they walked, as participation meant earning house points towards the House Cross Country shield and the House Cup.

Most students chose to run, or partly run, within the different events, attempting to do better than they did last year. Students in the 8/9/10 year age group ran 2km, and students in the 11, or 12/13, year age group ran 3km.

Students finishing in the top ten, for their event, earned increased number of house points. The top ten, in each event, will have the opportunity to choose whether to attend the District Cross Country carnival on Thursday 16th May at Bundoora Park; there will be more information to follow for these students.

I congratulate all participants at our carnival, all top ten place getters, and especially, the top three place getters for each event who are listed below.

Junior School Sport Tournaments in Term 1

This term students across the Junior school have had the opportunity to compete in a range of lunchtime competitions, including a Year 3/4 Ga Ga tournament, Year 5/6 NBA style 3-point basketball contest and a Year 5/6 hot shots tennis tournament.

All students who participated demonstrated great skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The supportive and encouraging attitude throughout all the tournaments has been noticeable and a great opportunity for students to engage with healthy, competitive sport.

Congratulations to Kiara C for winning the Ga Ga competition, Poppy S and Aarav V for winning the tennis tournament, and Mila C and Van H for winning the 3-point contest.

Looking forward to another range of competitions that will be held in Term 2.
