At St Mary's College, we embrace a STEM philosophy grounded in the Presentation Sisters' charism of compassion, aiming to inspire, educate and empower our students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
This year, we have employed Catherine Midson, pictured, to join our staff in the role of specialist STEM teacher. A passionate and highly experienced STEM educator, Catherine has spent the last few years championing STEM as a systemic CET educator.
Embracing the future and role modelling to our students the possibilities of technology, we are really excited about how this innovative program dovetails with our educational philosophy.
Inspire
We connect our students with female role models, including First Nations and those in STEM professions, embracing the mantra, 'If I can see it, I can be it.' Providing authentic experiences in context, competitions, and student-led inquiry, we encourage our students to see themselves as future innovators and leaders in STEM.
Learn
Our dedicated educators in the Junior School are committed to making a difference for others from the foundation years. We leverage the Learning Engagement Framework to provide real-world problem-solving opportunities that prepare our students for a rapidly changing global landscape.
Grow
We foster a culture of resilience and continuous improvement, integrating digital literacy through all learning areas to ensure our students are adept in navigating and utilising technology. This not only prepares them to make a positive impact but also equips them with the skills necessary for success in a digital world.
Focussing on STEM in the foundation years of schooling is about empowering our students to be curious, resilient and innovative leaders in STEM, inspired by strong female role models and equipped for the future. 'If I can see it, I can be it' reflects our commitment to making STEM an accessible and inspiring field for all our students.
