International Mathletics Day

March 14

Last Thursday, 14th of March, was the International Day of Mathematics. Over 1754 events were hosted worldwide and Ocean Grove Primary School students enjoyed celebrating too.

The theme for 2024 was “Playing with Math”, celebrating mathematical games, puzzles and other entertaining activities, but also "playing" with mathematics itself, exploring, experimenting, and discovering.

In Year 2, students had a special maths day, playing number games like ‘Get out of my House!’ and going on a maths scavenger hunt around the school. They also created tessellations with 2D shapes, experimented with the new 13-sided ‘einstein shape’ discovered in 2022 and, inspired by the book ‘Actual Size’ by Steve Jenkins, explored the measurement of animals such as a giant squid!
