Principal Report

Values:

Our school's values shape who we are and how we act. They're the important beliefs we hold, guiding us in everything we do. These values influence our behaviour and choices every day.

Oatlands has 5 core school values: Respect, Effort, Kindness, Resilience and Creativity.

At Oatlands, we are all responsible for upholding these values as we develop and grow as lifelong learners.

During Term 1, students have been demonstrating the value of respect in various ways:

  • Having a positive influence on the physical and emotional wellbeing of others.
  • Taking care of themselves, their belongings and the environment.
  • Using manners and being considerate of other people at all times.

Many students have received a Respect Award throughout this term, and it has been wonderful to hear the stories of celebrations at home.

Term 2 will focus on another school value, Effort. We look forward to seeing our students try their best and display a willingness to give everything a go.

Attendance

Every Day Counts

Going to school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day – missing school puts them behind.

We all want our students to acquire a great education, and the building blocks for a great education begin with students coming to school each and every day.

Our students have been working hard to be a HERO: Here, Every day, Ready to learn, On time.

If students miss school regularly, they miss out on learning the fundamental academic, social, and emotional skills that will set them up for success in the later years of school. There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind and can affect their educational outcomes.

Top attendance tips for parents

  • Our school wants to work in partnership with parents – act early if you have any concerns by contacting your child’s teacher and asking for advice and support.
  • Remember that every day counts.
  • There is no safe number of days for missing school – each day a student misses puts them behind, and can affect their educational outcomes and their social connectedness.
  • Talk positively about school and the importance of attending every day.
  • Avoid making routine medical and dental appointments during the school day or planning family holidays during the term.

Recording absences

Protecting the safety and well-being of children through the reporting and monitoring of absenteeism is the responsibility of both the parents/carers and our school.

Please remember to notify the school if your child is going to be late or absent from school. You can enter your child’s absence by logging onto Compass, or calling the school office on 9705 6055.

If your child's absence remains unexplained, a letter will be sent home. Please sign , date and return to the office for processing
