Learning & Teaching

Welcome back to Term 2! I hope you all enjoyed a slower pace over the school holiday period.

Literature at STM

There is nothing quite like getting lost in a great book. This term our Year 2-6 students begin their first novel studies for the year.  Our 5/6 and 4/5 classes will take turns exploring Peter Brown's novel, The Wild Robot, and our Year 2/3s will read The One and Only Ivan by Katherine Applegate in the second half of the term. Students will work through their text with the support of their teachers, and explore the themes and big ideas through whole class discussions and learning tasks.

Classroom Mastery

Next Friday, 26th April is a school closure day due to a MACS allocated day in lieu for Eastern Region staff. However, instead of having a sleep-in, our dedicated and committed teachers are heading over the Westgate Bridge to Tarneit to participate in the next stage of  Flourishing Learners School Improvement Project.

We will work closely with the team from Classroom Mastery, who support schools and teachers to create engaged, positive and productive classrooms, and unpack our newly developed St Thomas More Behaviour Curriculum. Our behaviour curriculum focuses on explicitly teaching and developing positive behaviours for a sense of belonging and learning, and is underpinned by our school values of kindness, fairness and justice. Students will begin learning about the expected behaviours within our new curriculum in the coming weeks and we will share information with our families through the newsletter. Watch this space!

Wishing  a wonderful week,
