YOUTH LEADERSHIP ACADEMY AUSTRALIA  -  YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE 2024

On Wednesday 13th March, Ms Scannell and Mr Caccamo accompanied 20 Year 12 student leaders and the 4 Junior School Captains to the ‘Youth Leadership Academy Australia – Youth Leadership Conference’ at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.  At the conference a range of inspirational speakers shared their stories with students with the key message being “Your age does not determine your ability to do extraordinary things”.  YLAA aims to equip students / future leaders with the skills and confidence to be change makers in their schools & communities and to prepare them for a future in leadership. Students participated in activities with over 1400 leaders from other schools as they analysed who they are and who they want to be in the future. They represented our school exceptionally well.

Last week, I joined many of our Belmont High School Year 12 Student leaders to go to Melbourne to attend the Youth Leadership Academy Australia (YLAA) - Youth Leadership Conference. The conference focused on how we can collaborate alongside our fellow captains to make our school a better place to learn, but to also become better leaders and people ourselves. We were listened to some keynote speakers who shared their knowledge to allow us to develop our leadership skills. We were also joined by our amazing teachers, Mr. Caccamo and Ms. Scannell, who took time away from their busy schedules at school to support us and allow us to be equipped with these necessary leadership skills that we can definitely benefit from.”    (Murtaza Bandari – School Captain)

The YLAA Conference was such a great experience. I was really surprised with how big the conference was. We were only 20 or so of the 1400 students that attended. It was a really good opportunity to be able to be in an environment with so many like-minded students and share our diverse values and beliefs that go towards our leadership settings. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to listen to people who showed utmost resilience in such hard points in their lives, and it was very aspiring to listen to how they came back from them. “  (Keeley Begg -School Captain )
