Principal's Report

 

What a fantastic Term 1 it has been at Belmont High. I’d like to thank all the students and families for supporting us in such a positive start to the school year. Term 1 has been jam-packed with Year 12 & 7 camps, swimming sports, NAPLAN, school photos, VCE study sessions, music performances, Open Night and we’ve even managed to squeeze a bit of teaching and learning in there.

 

The positive start sets us up in a terrific position to continue the great work in Term 2.

 

Students of the Month

At Belmont High School we will be celebrating our students who display excellent learning behaviours with a regular “Student of the Month” award. Student reports will be used to create a shortlist for teachers to consider against the below criteria:

  • Student shows exceptional application in class and overall effort towards their studies.
  • Student has a positive attitude towards learning, their classes and the school.
  • Student is always ready to learn by being in correct uniform, having all required materials and rarely needs to leave class.
  • Student may show some leadership qualities in the classroom.
  • Student’s academic performance is very good OR they have shown great growth in this area over time.

 

I’m pleased to announce the students of the month for February were:

 

Year 7 – Riley Budge -7M

Year 8 – Charlie Manderson - 8E

Year 9 – Marley Walker - 9A

Year 10 – Rebecca Pearce – 10S

Year 11 – Elijah Brennan – 11B

Year 12 – Cara Li – 12V

 

These students will be recognised at our school assembly on Monday.

 

Council Elections

Congratulations to our recently elected members to school council.

NAPLAN

Congratulations to all the Year 7 & Year 9 students who completed the recent NAPLAN testing. The way the students rose to this challenge was terrific ensuring they made the most of this opportunity. We look forward to seeing how our students achieved when results come out in late Term 2. 

 

School Tours

School tours will continue into next term running every Monday and Wednesday at 9:30am. This is a great opportunity to see the school in operation and gives a real insight into what learning looks like at Belmont High School. SCHOOL TOURS

 

SEALP Early Entry

The Department of Education has agreed to support a one-year trial in 2024, whereby Geelong secondary schools can offer placement in year 7 for 2025 prior to the state-wide year 6-7 placement timeline. The trial will include Belmont High School’s SEAL Program. 

 

Importantly, only students who live within Belmont High School’s designated neighbourhood school zone will be able to apply and participate in early testing.

Parent / Student / Teacher Interviews

Our Parent / Student/ Teacher interviews are this coming Tuesday 26th March. Interviews run from 12:00pm to 7:00pm. This day is a student altered day and it is expected that students be part of these interviews. Parents can book via the Compass App.

 

Senior Cricket

Congratulations to the senior cricket team who have made it through to the state finals in October. The team has been dominant in the early rounds moving past opponents comfortably.

 

Easter Break

Our end of term is Thursday 28th March. I would like to wish all of our students and families a relaxing Easter and hopefully you all don’t over do it with the chocolate eggs (it is hard when they are so delicious).
