Book of the Week

Deadly Waters

by Helen Waters

Deadly Waters is the story of ‘Digger’ a teenager who dreams of playing cricket for Australia, but his ambitions are put on hold when Australia goes to war.

Based on real events, Digger joins the Navy as a reservist soon after leaving school and is called up to active duty as the Second World War breaks out. He trains as a radio signalman and serves on his first ship, helping to destroy the deadly sea mines left by German ships along Victoria’s coast. Digger later serves on the navy’s flagship, HMAS Australia, and experiences the horrors of war as he and his fellow sailors come under kamikaze attack.

Deadly Waters is a story full of action, tragedy and adventure, and will open your eyes to Australians’ experience during World War Two.
