Tennis

Our Term 2 Tennis Coaching

sessions will begin on Friday April 26th and take place in our school stadium. Students do not need any equipment as it is all supplied. The school will subsidise the cost of this program for each of our students using Active Schools Funding.

P-2 News from Miss Duffy

Term Two is bound to be just as busy and exciting as Term One was. We will be learning about Flight as part of our Integrated Studies program, beginning with birds. Our mentor texts will also have a bird theme for the first few weeks and we will explore the techniques the authors have used to engage and entertain the reader. In Mathematics we will spend the first part of the term exploring whole number and place value before moving onto fractions. We will also be learning about Time and I have a special secret project for us to demonstrate our learning (you will just have to wait and see what it is).

Families please remember to listen to and sign your child's reader each night, students are heard read by an adult everyday whilst at school but reading again at home helps consolidate the day's learning. Students in Years 1 & 2 also have nightly words that focus on a particular phonics pattern, it would be great if you could assist your child to practice these words.

Year 3-6 News from Mr Collins

A big welcome back to the kids after what has been a very relaxing break filled with plenty of chocolate tasting sessions. We got straight back into the swing of things Monday so the kids have already started taking their Mathsmates and Readers home to complete every night. Thank you all so much for your assistance with this as I know how tricky it can be some nights to find the time to get this done (my kids get them too!!!) The Mathsmates in particular are a great way to see any misconceptions the kids may have so please feel free to write on the page that they 'had trouble' or 'needed help' on certain questions and I will endeavour to investigate this back at school. Our Integrated Unit this term is split into the subtopics: Electricity & Flight. We will take a far more experimental approach to these topics and I will post as many photos as possible in future newsletters.

Being Mindful

At the end of each lunchtime our students undertake 10 -15 minutes of Mindfulness. These session are ran by each of our teachers on different days. Research has shown that

practicing mindfulness can help studentss learn how to manage stress, regulate their emotions, focus on the task at hand, and develop a positive outlook on life. People who use mindfulness also develop a better understanding of how their brains work.

Our students participate in a range of activities, from meditation and yoga to creative design and music appreciation.

Yesterday the students had to create a playdough scultpture that they felt best represented themselves. Their classmates then had to guess what they had made but more importantly why these symbols represented their classmate. Below are a few of the sculptures.

Art News from Miss Duffy

We began this term working on some ANZAC themed art and this will be on display during our student-led ceremony next Wednesday.

This term we will work on making some special things for Mother's Day. The rest of the term will see us creating pieces of art work centered around the theme of BIRDS. Rather than exploring one or two mediums we will engage in a range of activities with a bird theme to tie in with our Integrated Studies themes.

News From Ms Roediger

Healthy Minds and Active Bodies

Last term we have focused on working on our balance, and tracking an item such as a ball or balloon. As a school we have been moving through circuits with a variety of different activities to focus on developing particular skillsets. We have also been discussing, ‘What make a successful team’. Student’s collaboratively created roles for Team Leader and Team Members, understanding that each role has different requirements. In the final week of Term 1 we started tidying up and preparing the soil in our Veggie Patch so that we can sow our Winter Vegetables at the beginning of Term 2.
