On Tuesday evening, the Trinity College Novice debating team won the first debate of the WADL (West Australian Debating League) competition of the 2024 season at Shenton College, against opponents from Shenton College.
The team consisted of Riley Hall (8.4), Matteo Redolatti (8.3) and Lucas Hall (8.4) and they debated the motion: This house would implement the four-day school week model on the affirmative side.
When another member of the team was unable to participate due to illness, Lucas, the team’s reserve, stepped up to the challenge, spending his lunch break preparing for his role on the team. His dedication paid off as he delivered an excellent performance, seamlessly integrating with his teammates, Matteo and Riley.
The debate was well thought out by Trinity with punchy points and excellent rebuttals that had been thought out in anticipation of what the opposing team would raise. It was close to being called off at the last minute due to the other team’s members being stuck in traffic but luckily, they arrived and provided us with a great competition. Trinity’s well-researched points resonated with the audience and judges and in the end, it was a triumph for Trinity College—a testament to their research skills, teamwork and quick thinking.
Orlando competed in this year’s 2024 Paddle Australia Canoe Sprint National Champions in Penrith, NSW. Orlando took great pride in representing Western Australia and had a stella Regatta over the past week, one he will never forget wining all 3 of his individual events:
He also picked up 3 more Gold in the team boat events, bringing home 6 Gold in total. Congratulations, Orlando!
