Mrs Bindy Abell - Sports Co-Ordinator

Well, we jogged off the cross-country course right through the holidays and landed at the start of Term 2 and where did that time go? We hope you all had a fabulous and restorative holiday ready for a massive term of sport.

Just to recap we finished our wonderful Term 1 off with the School Cross Country. It seems a lifetime ago, but it was a fun filled day with an excellent display of stamina and determination from our students. We started with our Course Walk to ensure no one was going to get lost. Our first races where the infant girls and boys. They ran their 1km race in full view of our spectators and didn’t miss a beat running the entire distance with ease. It’s a long way for little legs so congratulations to all the participants for never giving up! Morning tea was welcomed with hungry tummies and the captains set up for the House Cheer Competition.

Again, we thank you to our grandparents guided by Mrs Caskey in helping decide the winner of the Cheers. It is never an easy job and this year Gleeson one the cheer competition. Then into our Junior 2km Races. The start is always great to watch and then I’m not entirely sure what happens out the back end only to be in full surprise and excitement as the leaders head down the hill from the Sports Club and through the gates to run the final 100m meters, goal post to goal post, across the oval. These sprint finishes are magic to watch and the sheer grit at the end of a long race from our students is so inspiring! Well done!

Much the same can be said about the Senior 3km races except there is an extra 1km out the back where I really don’t know what happens. I only know that we have our fabulous parent volunteers out there on their check points knowing that the students are safe. So a big thankyou to all those volunteers that were out on the course it is greatly appreciated! The smell of the BBQ meant it was time for lunch! Thank you to the P and F for a fabulous BBQ lunch and Cassie and your team for the canteen! Fueling these kids is essential for big days like this so thank you. A few novelty events including the traditional egg and spoon race, sack races, hoola-hoop races and the classic over and under saw such great involvement from our parent community and I can’t express how much your children enjoy it when you’re involved. You are making memories with them and that’s what its all about! The pool noodle between the knees race is just not as fun with out the parents. A carnival day isn’t complete without the Tug-of-war. At this point I believe the parents were actually having more fun than the students!

Great work all round! Sorry to the Hughes Parent team who had lost Damon as he was packing up the entire Cross Country course (greatly appreciated). Maybe next year? Well done Gleeson. The most exciting moment at the conclusion of the day was the announcement of the House Cup and for this carnival Hughes took out the cup or should I say Check point A marker as Mrs Abell forgot the trophy! Huge apologies! Thanks to all our wonderful parents and staff who make these days so successful and make my job super easy! I truly can’t thank you enough and your children thank you too!
