From the Science r

First, a big congratulations to all the Year 6 students who enthusiastically took part in Science activities this year. So many of our students gave up their time to set up this year’s Science activities and helped to create a safe, happy and engaging Science learning environment. I hope that you can see your leadership skills have become stronger and the reward is that many of the younger students look up to you and admire your abilities to share and promote interesting Science knowledge. This kind of intrinsic reward will hopefully set you up for a lifelong love of Science and all the great adventures it will bring you along the way. Because you are all interested in the way the world works and everything in it, you are all natural scientists in one form or another and I wish you all the best for your future studies.

Science Award News

A big congratulations to our Solway PS Science Talent Search students. Our school has been recognised with The Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria’s 2025 Hugh McKnight Encouragement Award.  For this, we were awarded with a trophy and a bursary prize. This award recognizes our school’s ‘strong commitment, support, and enthusiastic participation in helping students explore and excel in science’.

2026 Theme and Topics

The Science Teachers’ Association of Victoria is delighted to share that the 2026 Science Talent Search theme is Seeds of Science: Nurturing Knowledge for All. The 2026 Creative Writing and Poster topics are now available on the  web page: https://stav.org.au/sts-resources , giving coordinators and students a head start as planning begins for next year. As you know, participation in the Science Talent Search is a completely optional extension activity provided to our Solway students. Projects are to be completed in students’ own time. Our school can send only 24 entries through to the statewide competition, with the remaining entries having the opportunity to share their new knowledge with the school community in Term Two, 2026.

Have a lovely Christmas and New Year!
