Wellbeing - Middle School

New Beginnings
Last Friday marked an important milestone for our community as we welcomed our new Year 5 students to their first day at the College. As expected, the day was filled with a healthy mix of nerves and excitement. Starting at a new school is a significant step, and our Year 5 students approached it with courage, curiosity, and enthusiasm.
In speaking with the boys and their families, I emphasised the high expectations we hold—expectations that I know are a key reason families choose to partner with us in their sons’ education. We ask a great deal of our students, not only to do their best academically, but also in how they conduct themselves each day. Our belief is simple: if we get the little things right—manners, organisation, effort, respect—then the big things tend to take care of themselves. That’s all part of the Shining the St Patrick’s Way framework, that they will see everywhere during their time at the College.
While learning, service learning, sport, music, and all co-curricular opportunities are vital parts of a well-rounded education, our most important responsibility is shaping good young men. Character, integrity, and kindness are what matter. When our boys leave us, it is these qualities, alongside their academic achievements, that will define their success and contribution beyond the school gates.
We also warmly welcomed our Year 7 students for their first official day of high school. Having already completed a full two-day transition program at the end of last year, they arrived well prepared and ready to hit the ground running. After a morning of presentations and extended homeroom time designed to support a smooth transition, they settled quickly into their lessons after recess. Their confidence and engagement were a pleasing sign of what promises to be a positive and productive year ahead.
We look forward to working closely with our families as we support all students through these important stages of their schooling journey.
