Letter to Family and Friends

Dear Families,

A Story of Teamwork: Many Parts, One Community

Welcome to the new school year at Pilgrim School. We warmly welcome all of our new families who are beginning their journey with us in 2026, and we also extend a warm welcome back to our ongoing families who are already an important part of our school community.

As we start this year together, we are reminded that Pilgrim School is more than just a place of learning - it is a community built on care, connection, and teamwork.

During the first week back at school, a young student arrived feeling nervous and unsure. A new school year can bring excitement, but it can also feel overwhelming - new routines, new faces, and the busy energy of the classroom and playground.

A teacher noticed straight away and gently welcomed the child with warmth and reassurance. But the support did not stop there.

Throughout the morning, an Education Support Officer quietly offered encouragement and helped the student settle into learning. At recess, a yard duty teacher made sure the child was included in play with others. In the Front Office, a friendly smile and kind words helped them feel at ease. Later in the day, our Wellbeing Team checked in to ensure the student felt safe, supported, and ready to flourish in the days ahead.

What could have been a difficult beginning became a reminder of something powerful: at Pilgrim School, no one works alone.

It takes many people - our administrative team, teachers, Education Support Officers, leadership, and families - each playing their part, to create the caring and flourishing community we treasure.

The Body of Christ: One Team, Many Gifts

The Bible gives us a beautiful picture of how community works through the image of the Body of Christ:

“For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4–5

And again:

“Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.”

1 Corinthians 12:27

Just as the body needs hands, feet, eyes, and ears - each unique and essential - our school community is strengthened by the different gifts, roles, and contributions of every person.

Some lead, some teach, some support, some listen, some organise, some encourage - but all matter deeply.

Three Ways Families Can Help Children Start the Year Well

As we begin this new year together, here are three simple ways you can support your child as they settle back into school life:

Establish gentle routines early

Getting back into regular sleep, morning routines, and school-day structure helps children feel secure and confident.

Talk positively about school

Encouraging conversations about friendships, learning, and new opportunities can ease anxieties and build excitement.

Stay connected and communicate

If your child is feeling worried or unsure, please let us know. When school and home work together, children thrive.

Stronger Together

At Pilgrim School, we are proud of the way our staff work together, and we know that this is made even stronger through our partnership with families. Together, we create a special community where children feel safe, supported, and able to thrive.

Let’s continue to work together to make this happen. Please feel welcome to speak with any member of our team if there are ways we can support, assist, or look out for the young people in our care.

Because at Pilgrim School, we truly are stronger together.

Blessings,
