A new school year always arrives with a colourful mix of feelings. Some children bounce through the gates with excitement, ready for new adventures. Others hold a little tighter to a trusted person’s hand, feeling unsure about the changes ahead. And for parents and carers, those first-day goodbyes can be just as emotional; sometimes proud, sometimes hopeful, and sometimes a little teary. All of these feelings are real and all of them are welcome.
In the middle of this swirl of emotions, God meets us with steady love. We don’t need to hide our worries or our joy. God holds it all and walks with us into each new day.
As we return to school this week, we also return to community. After the summer break, classrooms fill again with friendly faces, curiosity and the joy of reconnecting. Friends greet one another, new friendships begin and teachers and staff welcome every child with warmth and care. I feel so fortunate to know that at St Paul, this is a place where everyone belongs.
Our school values shine especially brightly in these first days:
We belong: knowing that each person is valued, included and loved as part of our school family.
These values remind us that we are safe, supported and surrounded by people who care about our children’s learning and wellbeing.
A verse that speaks beautifully into these beginning days of the new school year is:
“God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Psalm 46:1
This promise reassures us that whether we feel brave, nervous, excited or uncertain, God is with us. God strengthens us when goodbyes feel hard, celebrates with us when we reconnect with friends and stays beside us as we grow throughout the year.
As we begin this new chapter together, may we step forward with hope and courage. God goes before us, our community surrounds us and together we will learn, play, and flourish.
Blessings for a wonderful year ahead.
