Year 7 and 8
Year 7
Year 7 students have made a strong start to Term 3 and are well on their way to becoming Year 8 students!
Year 7 students have been getting involved in a range of projects across their classes, including developing persuasive speeches in English, creating Sunbury Superblocks in Humanities, designing animal enclosures in Science and conducting statistical investigations in Maths. Some of our classes were also invited to participate in a Science incursion run by RMIT and some Year 9 students, exploring the process of building machines.
Our focus for the first half of the term has been on attendance – making sure that we arrive to classes on time so that we can make the most of our learning time. Congratulations to 7D and 7G for winning the attendance competition and earning themselves a pizza lunch!
Our next competition focuses on bringing equipment to class. We are encouraging students to ensure they bring all their required materials, including their pencil case, exercise books and laptop, to every class. This helps us avoid students needing to leave the lesson once it has started. Classes can also gain points for each green post they receive – may the best class win!
Coming Up
- Market Day is happening in Week 1 of Term 4, where students will be able to run their own market stalls as part of our Economics and Business unit.
Junior Sports – lots of opportunities are coming up this term. Make sure students keep an eye on Compass for try-outs across a whole range of sports.

Year 8
The Year 8 cohort has had a fantastic start to Semester 2, settling into their new elective subjects with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. It has been wonderful to see students embracing new learning opportunities, developing new skills and challenging themselves in different curriculum areas.
One of the highlights this term was our exciting Year 9 Subject Selection process in Week 3. Throughout their Pastoral Care lessons, students participated in a range of activities designed to help them identify their strengths, interests and future aspirations. They then explored how these interests align with the wide variety of Year 9 elective subjects available at Sunbury College.
As part of this process, students also learnt how to navigate the Sunbury College Course Guide on the College website. Developing confidence in using the Course Guide is an important skill that students will continue to build on as they progress through Year 10 and into their VCE studies, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future pathways.
We are incredibly proud of the maturity and thoughtfulness our Year 8 students demonstrated throughout the subject selection process and look forward to seeing them continue to grow as learners.
Areas for Improvement
As always, we appreciate the support of our families in reinforcing our school expectations. This term, we are placing a particular focus on:
- Eating in class: Students are expected to eat their food during break times only. This includes brunch and lunchtime.
- Uniform: Students are expected to wear plain black school pants that comply with the College uniform policy.
- Hoodies and undergarments: Hoodies and visible undergarments are not part of the Sunbury College uniform and should not be worn during the school day.
Mobile phones: In line with the Victorian Government's Mobile Phone Policy, all mobile phones must remain switched off and securely stored in student lockers throughout the school day.
We look forward to continued success with our Year 8 students in Term 3.
