📚 BOOK WEEK – CELEBRATING THE MAGIC OF READING
What a wonderful Book Week we have had at Moorabbin Primary School! It was an absolute joy to see so many of our students embrace the spirit of the week and immerse themselves in the magic of books, stories and imagination. The enthusiasm shown for our Book Week dress-up day was simply fantastic, with students arriving as much-loved characters, authors, heroes, villains and wonderfully creative interpretations of their favourite stories. The excitement and pride on the children's faces as they shared their costumes with friends and teachers was a wonderful reminder of the special place that books hold in the lives of our students. A huge congratulations to every child who participated and to our families for the time, creativity and effort that went into making the day such a memorable occasion.
Our Book Week Parade at assembly was undoubtedly one of the highlights of the week! The atmosphere was filled with excitement, laughter and an incredible sense of community as our students proudly walked through the parade and celebrated their love of reading together. It was wonderful to see students cheering one another on and appreciating the creativity and individuality of each costume. The parade captured exactly what Book Week is about, celebrating stories, imagination, creativity and the joy that comes from sharing books with others. A very special thank you to our teachers and Education Support staff for creating such engaging experiences throughout the week and for encouraging our students to participate so enthusiastically. It was certainly a celebration that brought a great deal of joy to our school community. As you know I love a dress up and was thrilled to participate as the “witch from the wizard of Oz “and one of my favourites was Alina from 4W “cos playing” me!
🌟 EDUCATION WEEK – CELEBRATING LEARNING AND OUR STUDENTS
Education Week has also provided us with a wonderful opportunity to celebrate learning, growth and the many achievements of our students and staff. Across the school, classrooms have been filled with engaging learning experiences, purposeful conversations and opportunities for students to share their learning and demonstrate their capabilities. What has been particularly pleasing has been the level of engagement and enthusiasm from our students. Seeing children actively participating, asking questions, sharing ideas and taking pride in their learning is exactly what we strive for every day at Moorabbin Primary School.
I would like to congratulate all of our students for the way they have embraced both Education Week and Book Week, and to thank our families for continuing to support and encourage their children's learning. Most importantly, I would like to acknowledge our incredible staff, whose creativity, dedication and commitment make these experiences possible. It has been a wonderful week of learning, laughter, imagination and community, and I could not be prouder of everyone who contributed to making it such a success.
🛠️ YEAR 2 BILLY GO-CART INCURSION
Our Year 2 students had an absolutely fantastic time participating in a hands-on and highly interactive Billy Go-Cart incursion! This engaging workshop provided students with the wonderful opportunity to become designers, builders and problem-solvers as they constructed their very own classic wind-up Billy Go-Cart toy. With great enthusiasm, persistence and curiosity, students worked with wood and simple construction materials, carefully following instructions and using their developing fine motor skills to assemble their creations. There was plenty of excitement as students watched their go-carts come together and discovered how the different components worked to make their toys move.
The incursion was also a wonderful opportunity for students to develop important skills beyond the finished product. They were encouraged to think creatively, solve problems, make decisions and persevere when something did not work the first time. Students had the opportunity to use tools such as hammers under close supervision, with appropriate protective equipment provided and strict safety procedures followed throughout the workshop. It was fantastic to see our Year 2 students demonstrating such enthusiasm, concentration and pride in their work.
The biggest highlight was undoubtedly seeing the children's faces as they proudly took their completed Billy Go-Carts home to share with their families. A huge congratulations to our Year 2 students for their wonderful effort, and a big thank you to our teachers and parents for supporting such a memorable learning experience!
SEL (SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING) SESSIONS THIS WEEK FOR OUR YEAR 3-6 STUDENTS.
Mrs Kelly has been immersing our Year 3–6 students to develop an important life skill through their Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) sessions. How to manage and resolve conflict in a respectful and constructive way.
Through engaging role-play activities, students have had the opportunity to explore common situations that can lead to disagreements and practise different ways of responding. Using puppets and realistic scenarios has made these conversations engaging and accessible, allowing students to step outside their own experiences and consider how different people may feel during a conflict. Students have been learning to pause, listen to the other person's perspective, communicate their feelings appropriately and work towards a solution rather than allowing a disagreement to escalate.
These are skills that extend far beyond the classroom and are an important part of helping our students develop into confident, respectful and empathetic young people. Conflict is a natural part of relationships and learning how to navigate disagreements calmly and fairly is a skill that students will use in the playground, during group work, with friends and siblings, in sporting activities and throughout their lives.
It has been wonderful to see students actively participating in the role plays, sharing ideas and considering how their words and actions can influence others. We are proud of the way our students are developing their ability to communicate, problem-solve, show empathy and take responsibility for repairing relationships when things go wrong.
🩺 Health Reminder – Influenza and Head Lice
We would like to remind families that we are currently experiencing cases of influenza and head lice within our school community. We ask all families to please remain vigilant and monitor children for symptoms, including fever, cough, sore throat, fatigue and other signs of illness, as well as checking regularly for head lice and nits. If your child is unwell or has symptoms of influenza, please keep them at home until they have recovered and are well enough to return to school.
Similarly, if head lice are identified, please commence appropriate treatment before your child returns to school. We understand that illness can be difficult for families to manage; however, keeping unwell children at home is an important way we can protect our students, staff and wider community and help prevent further spread. Thank you for your cooperation, care and consideration for the health and wellbeing of our entire Moorabbin Primary School community.
