Meet our Year 1 teachers

Miss Amy

1A and Team Leader

Hello everyone! After moving from Tasmania over 10 years ago I visited PMPS as a student teacher with my university. I loved it so much that I stayed (after I was lucky enough to get a job) and have now been here for almost 9 years! This year I am teaching year 1, which I absolutely love!

When I am not at school, you will find me walking my two dogs (both named Rufus) with my partner, going out for brunch with my friends or in a Pilates class. I also love every opportunity to travel and was lucky enough to explore New Zealand, Bali, Malaysia and Thailand over the last year. I am looking forward to heading back to Bali in a few months and going on some weekend adventures around Victoria in the upcoming school holidays.

  • What I'm reading right now: None of This is True by Lisa Jewell
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Writing
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: 8 and a half years.

Miss Wendy

1B

I've been at Port Melbourne for 8 years, and this is my 3rd year teaching. I grew up in South Africa, moved to the U.K. when I was 17 years old and then I moved to Australia with my husband Dan and daughter Cass 10 years ago.

I love to travel, and Dan and I often head off on camping adventures. Excitedly, we have recently bought a Toyota Troopcarrier and are building it out to be an offroad camper. We cannot wait to go on adventures around Australia in it!

  • What I'm reading right now: Taking a break from reading right now as I just finished my degree.
  • Favourite sport: Netball
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Art
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: I have been at PMPS for 8 years and taught for 2 years.

Miss Sasha

1C

Hi everyone! My name is Sasha and I am the teacher of the beautiful 1C class. If I look familiar, that's because I used to teach here, went away for a bit and have now come back. I went to another school on a bit of a 'Learning Adventure' because I believe that we are all learners at every age.

Outside of school, I am the fun Aunty to my 2 nephews, Noah who is 5 and Elijah who is 2. I love them to the moon and back. On the weekend, you will find me relaxing after the week and brunching in the many cafes in my area with friends. If you see me in the playground, come and say hi!

  • What I'm reading right now: News articles/opinion pieces on my socials
  • Favourite sport: Online shopping... does that count?
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): English and History
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: I started in 2015, had a break then came back.

Miss Laura

1D

Hello, my name is Laura and I teach Year 1DE alongside Miss Steph. I like spending time with family and friends, listening to music, painting, and taking the family dog Millie for beach walks in Port Melbourne. I have taken an interest in plants and the 1DE classroom is slowly turning into a jungle!

  • What I'm reading right now: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig
  • Favourite sport: Tennis
  • My favourite subject (when I was at school): Art
  • How long I've taught at PMPS: 5 years.
