18 June : Information for families

Feedback Assessment and Reporting Day

Tuesday 18 June will be a student free day for all Year 7- 10 students. On this day staff will be completing their assessment feedback and end of semester reports. This is the same day as the General Achievement Test (GAT) for all Senior Years students who are currently completing a Unit 3/4 subject. Please be aware that school will be closed on this day. The only students permitted onsite will be those completing the GAT.

GAT General Information

The General Achievement Test (GAT) is required to be sat by all students who undertake a Unit 3/4 VCE subject in 2024.

It takes place on 18 June at Northcote High School. Students will have allocated rooms and seats which will be published in the days leading up to the GAT on the communications pages for Students. Students MUST sit in their allocated seats.

Please arrive at the school from 8:30 to ensure that you are where you need to be in order to sit the GAT.

Part A of the GAT takes place from 9:00am-11:15 am. This is the Literacy and Numeracy part of the test.

Part B of the GAT takes place from 1:15pm-3pm. This is the General Knowledge part of the test.

Please note: As it is an Assessment and Reporting Day, teaching staff (with the exception of the Senior Sub School Team) will be working offsite. Therefore, students will not be able to remain onsite in between as there will not be adequate supervision available.

Students will be given practice questions and samples through the communications pages, however it is not necessary to study for the GAT. Students should prepare and be familiar with the type of questions that will be asked.

There are clear guidelines about what students are able to bring in to the GAT. Students should note these before going into the GAT. Please note: no electronic devices other than a scientific calculator may be taken into the GAT. Phones and smart watches etc are not allowed.

If your child will miss the GAT for medical reasons, please contact the school. The GAT is not able to be rescheduled for any reason, but we may be able to apply for a medical exemption if appropriate documentation is able to be provided.

If you have questions around the GAT, please contact the Senior School for further advice.
