Reconciliation Week

Last week was Reconciliation week and there were a variety of resources, lessons and activities held at school to educate and engage students. This years theme was Now more than ever

There were key events of significant to explore including:

National Sorry Day (26 May)

Anniversary of the 1967 Referendum (27 May)

Mabo Day (June 3)

Our student Leaders had made many informative posters about the significance of these days and also the events occurring at school in recognition.

Some of these included:

  • For anyone who drove past school you would have seen the large SORRY sign on our front lawn visible from St Georges Road.
  • Our Library team collated a wide range of resources to their that was shared with students and also ran activities which you will see in the next article.
  • Across the Year Levels in different Connect Lessons there were a range of activities to understand the concept of reconciliation and its importance in the context of Australian history, culture, and relationships between First Nations peoples and non-Indigenous Australians.
  • If you haven't see it, there was an apology video to the Stolen Generations from the Victorian Police Chief Commissioner that many teachers shared with their class (8 minutes)
  • A screening of In my blood it runs during a lunchtime
  • Our Languages faculty also tied in activities for Languages week including a Woiwurrung Word Find

We are also excited to soon share our Reconciliation Action Plan with the School Community that will be on our website shortly that shares our goals and visions in our continued effort towards Reconciliation as a school.
