Year 9 and 10 Netballers

Senior Division Table Tennis

Congratulations to our Senior Table tennis team who recently competed in the Divisional Tournament at Coburg Table Tennis Club.  Our team combined well and fought some very tough matches and were so close on many occasions only missing out on a game by 2 points each match.  Well done to Minke, Jade, Jack and Luca for being such great sports whilst representing our school.

Division Athletics

On May 24 our Athletics team travelled to Meadowglen to compete in the Division Athletics.  With a team of close to 60 members we had a lot of success on the day with many athletes coming away with ribbons and PB’s, with a lot of students qualifying to compete in the Regionals which is held on September 4.

Year 9/10 Netball

On May 28th, the Intermediate netballers went to Narrandjeri Stadium to compete in the Division competition. The Boys B, and girls B team had a ripper start, and ended with a couple of wins under their sleeve. The girls A team made it all the way to final for the two pools, being undefeated, but unfortunately lost the last game. The boys A team, also having a great start to the day, ended second for the day as well. Super impressed with some of the encouragement coming from the students to each other throughout the day. Well done!

Year 8 Soccer

On Friday last week, the year 8 boys soccer team went to Darebin international sport centre to compete in the year 8 division soccer day. The teams were placed into two pools, and the winner of the pools would then play off in a final and advance to regionals. The boys first game was against St ’Johns College, and the boys had a great opening display winning the game a comfortable 3-0. Raff Groves was one of the standout players in this game, scoring a hatrick. Our next game was against Lalor North Secondary College. Northcote came out firing as we put 5 goals into the Lalor North net and conceded none. Ashwin Param had a great performance here, scoring from left back and keeping the oppositions attack at bay. Our final pool game was against Thornbury High, and a win would secure Northcote’s place in the final. This was our toughest game yet, but the boys still won 2-0, keeping their clean sheet going throughout the competition. Henry Ashton scored a stunner of a goal from far outside the box to put the seal on victory and take Northcote through to the final. The final game of the day was against Preston High School. Around the middle of the first half, a controversial penalty was given to Preston, that they slotted away to put us down 0-1. At halftime, some tactical adjustments were made, and we started the second half dominating the game. Towards the end of the match, we needed a goal, and Malachi Chatelier scored a great goal, assisted by a through ball from Joshua Stefani. After a nerve racking 5 minutes, the game ended 1-1, and continued to penalties. Unfortunately, we fell just short at the penalty shots as Preston took away the win. It was a tight game all the way through and could have gone either way. The day was a great experience not only for the players, but also for us coaches. Everyone on the team played amazingly, and it was a pleasure to be the ones coaching them. We will be back next year stronger than ever, and hungry for a spot in regionals.

A few players that played exceptionally well are Tepa, Kiki, Kitty, Asia, Isla, Cleo, Saskia and Simona.
