Premiers’ Reading Challenge News
This Monday 27th May author Sue Lawson will be available to meet with PRC students during lunchtime in the library. Those attending this meeting may bring their lunch with them. Year 7 students are especially encouraged to come along to ask Sue any questions they may have about writing or to discuss books in general.
To complement Multicultural Day this week, the library is asking students to contribute to our display by sticking a pin on the map to show where they or their family originates from (apart from Australia). We’ve had around 25 students contribute already, and we’d love to see more!

Book of the Week
Escape from Stalingrad
by Andy Marino
12-year-old Artem loves living in Stalingrad, Russia, with his mother, older brother Vasiliy, and a cat called Misha. All this changes in the summer of 1942, when Germany invades Russia, and Vasily goes off to join the army.
After the city is devastatingly bombed and then divided between warring armies, Artem and his new friend Yuna are forced to fend for themselves. Trapped in the German-occupied half of the city, they scavenge for food and water, struggling to survive amongst the ruins. Desperate to save his injured mother, Artem turns to the one person he shouldn’t – a German officer – and begins to fetch water for the enemy in return for food and medicine. When Yuna is taken prisoner, Artem faces an impossible choice: save his friend or save his mother?
Escape from Stalingrad is a thrilling story of war, sacrifice, and courage in the face of all odds – written from a perspective that is often overlooked.
