Principal's Report

Stephen O'Shannessy

Yesterday, we held our Learning Conversations evening, a wonderful opportunity for parents, teachers and students to connect and discuss student progress. These evenings are invaluable, as they provide a platform for sharing insights that go beyond what is captured in Semester Reports. While reports are essential in providing a snapshot of academic performance, they don't always capture the full picture of a student's progress. The learning conversations allow teachers to share the nuances of each student's development, including areas where they have shown significant improvement and aspects that may need further attention.

Through these conversations, parents gain a deeper understanding of their child's strengths and areas for growth. It also allows for a collaborative approach in setting goals and developing strategies to support each student's learning journey.

We appreciate our parents' active participation and our teachers' dedication to making these nights successful. Together, we are committed to fostering an environment where every student can thrive. Thank you to all who attended. We look forward to continuing our partnership to support our students' success.

As mentioned in my last address, the school has embarked on an exciting advertising and promotions campaign to highlight the exceptional experiences we offer at St. Mary's. You may have noticed our new signage around Inglewood and our more active presence on social media.

We are thrilled to share that Lars from open2view.com has done an outstanding job capturing the many wonderful aspects of our school. These efforts will be instrumental in attracting new families to St. Mary's. We are delighted with the results and will be launching this online promotion next week. We encourage you to like and share our video with your friends and family.

In addition to this, we will be upgrading our website, sminglewood.catholic.edu.au  over the next fortnight. The new website will feature staff explaining various elements of our educational approach, along with testimonials from parents.

I want to take this opportunity to thank the parents who provided their testimonials. Your support and positive words are invaluable in showcasing the strength and community spirit of our school. Stay tuned for these exciting updates and thank you for your continued support!

It's back!  Staff are pleased to announce the return of the popular St Mary's Trivia Night.

Taking place on Friday, August 9th, at the Golf Club, we have partnered with Black Wallaby Wines to host their award-winning product for wine tasting. They will also be selling their products throughout the evening. We secured an outstanding MC who brings with him a range of official AFL memorabilia, which will go to auction. Our host receives the stock directly from the AFL at a discounted price, which allows our school to make a profit from the sales.

It would be great if each family attending could organise a table for themselves and friends instead of all school parents sitting at the same table. This way, we could bring more people to the event and raise more money for our school. Teams can be made up of  around 4-10 people.

If anyone wishes to donate prizes, please let me know, as this would reduce our costs.

Please see the flyer in the school news section for more details and save the date with your friends and family.

Kind Regards,
