SRC Report

In week 4 of this term we held the SRCs highlight of the year: Staff vs Student week! This week is an opportunity to foster a fun and friendly competition between staff and students at SCHS to strengthen school culture and spirit.

On Monday, our year 9 SRCs kicked off the week with the staff vs student debate, with the topic “should parents need a licence to have kids?” Despite a strong and experienced teacher side, the students were able to come away with a win in the first event of the week.

On Tuesday, the year 10 SRCs introduced a new trivia style competition this year with the Taskmaster Challenge, where students and teachers competed against the clock to complete funny challenges that tested their thinking and teamwork. Unfortunately for the teachers, the students were able to secure their second win of the week with a 2 point lead.

On Wednesday we took a break due to VCE early finish, and then went straight back into it on Thursday with SvS netball hosted by the year 12 SRCs. It was a highly competitive game and many students and teachers came to spectate as the year 12 SRCs also provided some enlightening sideline commentary. Despite the teachers’ team effort, the students' athleticism reigned supreme with a 6-10 victory.

Despite the students officially securing the win in 2024 SvS week after 3 wins in a row, the teachers still put on a great show at the Lip Sync Battle on Friday, hosted by the y11 SRCs. As always, the event was a big hit, with most of the school coming to watch in the auditorium and the rest watching from the Agora. Both sides put on some amazing performances, from Disney princesses, to Mean Girls, to Bruno Mars, there was something for everyone. As decided by a team of student and teacher judges including Ms Goodridge-Kelly, the teachers were able to come away with the win for the last event of the week.

The SRC want to thank every single person who put themselves forward to participate in SvS week as well as all staff and students who came to support and watch. We are very proud to say that the students have claimed victory in Staff vs Student week 2024, although we are sure that the teachers will come back stronger for an even more fiery competition next year!

Units 3&4 History Class Hellenic Museum Excursion

Student Account by Vrishti J. (B9) and Neharika P. (R4)

Our recent visit to the Hellenic Museum was nothing short of captivating, leaving us with an appreciation for the beauty of Hellenic culture. As we wandered through the museum's halls, surrounded by artefacts spanning centuries of history, all the way from the neolithic period to the Greek war of independence in the 1820s.

One of the most striking aspects of our visit was the sheer diversity of artefacts on display. From  pottery adorned with intricate designs from Athens to the first coins from Corinth, each item spoke volumes about the creativity and craftsmanship of ancient Greece. It was truly  inspiring to witness firsthand the legacy of a civilization that has left such a mark on the modern world and hold such history in our hands.

Our time spent exploring the museum's collections allowed us to delve deeper into the myths, legends, and historical events that have shaped Hellenic culture. We additionally spent time learning more about ancient Hellenic warfare, building our own shields and learning how to fight in a phalanx, like they did back then.

It’s a true pleasure to be able to see this collection before it goes back to Greece in august after 10 years being in Australia.
