InitiaLit in Prep B

Every day we eagerly participate in InitiaLit sessions. These sessions include, reading, writing, spelling, speaking, listening and handwriting. We have learnt about syllables and the different sounds in words as well as how to write them. When we learn a new sound, we learn about the letter that is connected to the sound and if it a voiced or unvoiced sound.

“We learnt about the letter d and the sounds that it makes. I also learnt sounds that start and end in /d/ like den or dad. We also learn how to write the letter d and touch our throat to see if it is voiced or unvoiced” - Camelia

“We learn about letters and what sound it makes and we look at tricky words and different letters. We also have learning about the different letter names and practise saying the sounds and writing them in words and sentences. I learnt about capital letters and to use them for a start of a name or the start of a sentence.” - Jayden

“When we learn some words we always sound them out to know which letter we are sounding out. We also learn about upper case and lower case letters and there are different characters for each letter. I love all of the songs and rhymes that help us learn!” - Tiana

“I have learnt how to read and write words, I sound them out, it makes me feel happy” - Ethan

“I have learnt that I need to sound out my words and how to write a lot because I practise them!” - Sheya

I have learnt about the letter and sounds and how to write them in words. I make sentences with words. Tricky words are words you just need to learn, you can’t always sound them out like ‘they’ and ‘was’.- Willow

“There is a tricky word family of words, they are the words be, she, he , see and we”. -  Seyara

These are the sounds we have learnt so far: Mm, Ss, Tt, Aa, Oo, Cc, Dd, Hh, P, Ii, Ff, Rr, Ee, Nn, Gg, Ll, Kk

This is our Tricky word tree, we add words when we learn them and then we practise them every day!
