SSATIS Cross Country wrap up

Thank you to all students who did an outstanding job representing themselves and St Mary’s College with pride and passion at the Southern SATIS Cross Country on Wednesday 22 May. I cannot be prouder of the way our athletes conducted themselves, both on and off the track. They cheered on their teammates, had fun making a giant lolly salad and, of course, ate a lot of hot chips!

Well done to the following athletes who finished first in their age group:

U13: Mills Watson

U16: Alet Le Grange

Open: Jess Smith

Mills, Alet and Jess with their winning trophies.

Thanks to everyone's efforts, St Mary's took out the Junior Shield (Years 7-10) and the Aggregate Shield (Year 7-12). Adding to this successful result, both the U13 and U16 teams finished first in their respective age group.

See more photos from the day in our online gallery.

I would like to thank our three captains, Olivia Walter, Holly Teale (Year 12) and Jess Smith (Year 11) for their support and encouragement of the runners throughout the day. They did an amazing job helping them to get ready and warmed up.

The Mercury took some great photos on the day, which I hope you can access via this link. If you’re not a subscriber, the students can access the link via the online school library.

All athletes are invited to attend the All Schools Cross Country, which will be on Thursday 13 June at Symmons Plains. The school provides a bus, which will leave at 7.00am and return at 4.30pm.

Junior School | Open Hockey

The momentum has been building each week for our combined St Mary’s College and Mount Carmel College Open Field Hockey team currently playing in the Hockey Tasmania schools competition. All players have been playing with great resilience, awesome teamwork and a keen eagerness to better their skills.

All the hard work paid off when they played—arguably their best game of the roster—a couple of weeks ago against The Hutchins School. Going up against a very skilled and physically bigger team, our SMC/MCC team showed no fear and played at an extremely high level for the full match.

Coach Hamish McLaren said:

“An amazing effort by our Year 6 girls when they defeated Hutchins 2-0. The team showed exceptional teamwork and supported one another throughout the game. It was noted by parents and supporters of Hutchins just how well our team played and showed that there are 11 players on the field and all of them play a crucial part.”

Pictured is our combined Open Field hockey team: Hamish with Sophie, Seraphina (MCC), Jemima, Amy, Olivia, Charlotte, Harper, Sofie, Sylvie, Annabelle, Alice and Ashley.

Thank you again to Hamish for coaching this team. I look forward to seeing our team build on this result and finish the roster strongly.
