Year 3

Literacy

In Year 3, students are delving into the captivating world of narrative writing, using Roald Dahl's 'Matilda' as their inspiration. As they explore the book, they are learning to structure their own stories with a clear framework: character, setting, action, problem, resolution, and conclusion. The students first focus on developing rich, engaging characters and vivid settings, drawing inspiration from Matilda's unique characters.

Maths

Our Year 3, students have been concentrating on developing their skills in multiplication and division. They have been learning to solve various multiplication problems, using strategies such as repeated addition and arrays to understand the concept. Alongside this, they have been working on division by sharing and grouping, ensuring they grasp the relationship between multiplication and division. Through a range of engaging activities and exercises, they are building a strong foundation in these essential maths operations, preparing them for more complex challenges in the future.

Maths

In maths, we are focusing on data and graphs, with an emphasis on various methods of data representation. Students are learning how to create and interpret tallies, which serve as a foundational skill for data collection. They are also exploring picture graphs, where they can visually represent data using images or symbols, making it easier to understand and compare information. Additionally, we are discussing the concept of frequency and how it relates to the number of times an event occurs. As part of this unit, students are actively collecting their own data and learning how to organise and present it accurately. They are gaining practical experience by plotting this data onto column graphs, developing their ability to analyse and draw conclusions from information collected.

Japanese

Our Year 4 students were lucky enough to visit Prep W and Prep M during the week and read their beautiful Japanese animal stories together.
