"There is always a reason for behaviour"

Dear Parents and Families,

Another busy fortnight has passed and we have really been trying to focus on our Value of Positvity across the school. Whilst there has been some illness in our community and Winter is upon us, we are trying to maintain postivity in our interactions with others, in our behaviour in the classroom and on the yard and with our peers and teachers. A highlight for me are the positive interactions and conversations I have with parents and students everyday. I love the way  students say "Good Morning Mrs Pennington and how are you?"

These beautiful prep childrem Flo, Mille and Tilly certainly shared the postive vibes this week.

Behaviour Education

Recently I attended a Professional Learning day on Behaviour Managment run by MACS (Melbourne Archdiocese of Catholic Schools) and understanding the reasons for behaviour in children. This was an interesting day and was reaffirming of all the incredible work that is being implemented at Sacred Heart. Reviewing our school rules and Behaviour guidelines has been timely. We learnt that there is always a reason for behaviour. This may help you as a parent when you reflect on what is going on for your child. If they are feeling safe at home, you may experience the worst of their behaviour with tiredness and meltdowns.  This is normal behaviour after the rigours of  a busy school day. One of the strategies we use at Sacred Heart is to discuss the Zones of Regulation and how we feel and which zone we are in. By naming our feelings this can make students feel in control and able to articulate their BIG FEELINGS.

Children often COMMUNICATE their feelings through their behaviour.

To problem solve for behaviour, it’s about looking beyond the behaviour.

Little Hearts Playgroup

It was wonderful to have over 20 pre schoolers and parents and carers  at playgroup this morning. We enjoyed some special time with the year 5 students today, playing shops, cars construction and colouring in. We ended the session with storytime and a play outside in the sunshine. All Pre-schoolers and famlies  are welcome.

Wishing you a wonderful and restful weekend,
