Change of Date

Please note, the Years 7-12 Sports Award Night has changed date and will now be held at Loreto College on Wednesday 18th September at 6:00pm.

Reconciliation Round

This week is the reconciliation round in the SACSSGSA and IGSSA competitions.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2024, Now More Than Ever #NRW2024, is a reminder to all of us that we have a role to play when it comes to reconciliation, and in playing our part we collectively build relationships and communities that value Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, histories, cultures, and futures.

In Round 3, Wednesday 22nd May - Saturday 25th May, students are encouraged to wear red, black, or yellow ribbons or socks in support of the reconciliation round.  We will also be acknowledging The Traditional Owners of the Land at Loreto College.

Links to further information, facts, posters, social tiles and other resources from Reconciliation Australia are available at National Reconciliation Week - Reconciliation Australia

Student Achievements

Congratulations to Tilda Pelham (Year 8) who has been selected to represent School Sport SA at the School Sport Australia 15 Years and Under Girls Hockey Championship. The championship will be held in Gold Coast, Queensland from Saturday 27 July to Saturday 3 August 2024.  We wish Matilda all the best with her preparations and at this competition.

Congratulations to Minnie and Poppy Clark (Year 10) on being selected to represent South Australia U15 State Squad at the National Soccer Youth Championships in Bundoora, Victoria on 3-8 July. The National Youth Championships (NYC) is the highest level of State V State and provides all players an invaluable development experience.

Cross Country

A group of Loreto Cross Country runners competed in the East Adelaide SAPSASA trials last Friday at Foxfield Oval, Athelstone. Our students ran hard against some tough competition, supported each other throughout the day and represented the school brilliantly. They even made friends with a small puppy while we were waiting for the bus!

Well done to Sophie d’Amato who came 3rd in the 11-year-olds race (after rolling her ankle on lap two!)

Well done also to Juliet Searle who came 5th in the 12-year-olds race (not bad after almost having to pull out of the event through illness!)

Sophie and Juliet have both qualified to run in the Cross Country State Championship on Thursday June 6th at Oakbank Racecourse. Good luck to you both!

Soccer

We are just one week away from the much-anticipated Year 3 Blue vs Year 3/4 Gold match. Both teams have kept their unbeaten run alive though the Golds had a scare, tied 1-1 with Westminster close to full time in a gripping tussle last Friday. In the closing minutes, Summer Squire channelled her inner Sam Kerr and fired in the match winner.

The Year 6 Golds are also undefeated while the Year 5 Blues finally get a chance for a home game tonight after a forfeit win and a bye halted their start to the term.

Netball

Our nine junior school netball teams are all up and running. There are two more “grading rounds” before the divisions are re-jigged following the June long weekend.

State Football

Well done to Mia Frearson-Lea (Year 6) and Grace Cornish (Year 7) who have been selected in the South Australian 12 years and under football team! The girls have been attending trials over the last month and learnt of their selection last week. The state team will travel to Geelong for the national championships, from Saturday August 3rd to Saturday August 10th. Congratulations and have a great carnival!

SAPSASA Netball

Congratulations to Giselle Strangar, Elsa-Marie Kefalianos and Alyssa Reed who have all been selected in the East Adelaide SAPSASA team for the State Carnival. Over 90 girls tried out from across 16 schools in the district.

The State Carnival will run over three days, from Wednesday June 19 to Friday June 21 at the Netball SA Stadium.

Well done also to Alyssa who filled in admirably for Loreto’s Year 8 team last weekend!

Athletics

Loreto’s junior school athletics autumn program finished last night with the inaugural LORETOlympics on the school oval. It was great to see so many girls keen to give athletics a try and we saw some amazing improvement over the seven weeks.

There will be a new 7-week season starting in spring (we’ll skip the winter!) and new participants will have the chance to register for the spring program. The activities involved are sprints, long distance running, high jump, long jump, discus and shot put.

Student Achievements

Well done to Savy Yeates, Bella Lynch and Everly Weekley in Year 5 whose team won the U/11 Mid Hills Netball Association Carnival on the weekend. They represented Walkerville Netball Club in the carnival. The girls’ Loreto Sub Junior 5 team is also undefeated at the moment so a great start to the winter season!

Congratulations to Year 7 student Grace Cornish who has been selected in the SASSA Girls 12 years and under Touch Football Team for the National Championships in Cleveland, QLD from 20th to 25th October 2024. Congratulations on another state team selection Grace, what a huge achievement!

Well done to Mia Frearson-Lea (Year 6) and Grace Cornish (Year 7) who have been selected in the South Australian 12 years and under football team. The state team will travel to Geelong for the national championships, from Saturday August 3rd to Saturday August 10th.  Congratulations Mia & Grace!
