Writing

CURRICULUM FOCUS

As part of our writing block this term we have been engaging in ‘creative writing’ once a week. We will continue applying our writing skills and knowledge within creative writing this week.

VOCABULARY

Creative writing: writing about any topic you wish through the use of your imagination and creativity.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Discuss with your child some of the different strategies they know and use when writing at school. For example:

  • Using Magic 100 words
  • Writing the sounds they can hear in words
  • Using finger spaces
  • Using digraphs

(just to name a few)

Then using a dot book or book from home ask your child to flick through the book and find a picture of interest to them. Ask your child to explain what they can see, what is happening etc. Then encourage your child to write a sentence or more about the picture. Your child may wish to write a short story about the picture using their ‘creativity’ and ‘imagination’.
