CURRICULUM FOCUS

As part of our reading block this week we will be revisiting text to self connections.

VOCABULARY

Text to self connection: when we relate something that may have happened, we saw or heard a character say or a ways a character felt  in a book to ourselves.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

With your child begin by revisiting what a text to self connection is- challenge your child to explain to you their understanding of a text to self connection before discussing it together.

Then using a dot book or book you have at home either have your child read the book or you read the book to your child. After reading ask your child to identify something within the book that they can connect to.

For example: If you read ‘Pig the Pug’ with your child they may discuss how Pig is not kind and it might remind them of a time when somebody wasn’t kind to them.

Your child can then draw a picture of the part of the text that they made their connection to and also a picture of the connection they made to that part in the book.
